Most people realise how beneficial extra light can be during dark winter mornings and for sometime dawn simulators have been helping to ease the misery of Seasonal Affective Disorder and the winter blues for thousands of people. Now there is further research proving just how effective that little dose of extra light in the morning can be.
Dr Michael Terman of Columbia University has just released recent research* published in the proving that dawn simulators are 'remarkably effective in the treatment of winter depression.' Dr Terman suggests that while morning bright light therapy "remains the first-line intervention for SAD, with thousands of successes and satisfied patients," dawn simulation should also be considered as an option.
This research comes at what is considered the most depressing, dark and bleak time of year for most and SAD sufferers are often at their worst. However, the findings of this research come as no surprise to Europe's leading light therapy experts at Outside In. Lumie Bodyclock is an important part of many people's winter survival kits making a considerable difference to their lives:
'..there is no way that I would want to go through another winter without these Bodyclocks' (Mrs A, Hertfordshire)
'The effects are dramatic - previously where I had got out of bed at 09.30 during the winter, I was up before 7am and studying for 2 hrs before the household started to move.' (Dr M, Glasgow)
