Is anyone experiencing muscle fatigue and joint pain. Mine has kicked in over the past couple of days and I feel like c**p. I can usually get to December before I feel like this. I am ok for most of the day but by about 4pm onwards I am in agony, my temperature goes up and I feel like I have got the flu. At the moment it is mainly around my hips and my legs.

Feeling really fed up :(

I don't get an elevated temperature. Are you sure you haven't come down with something? I think my immune system doesn't work as well in the wintertime, though.

I do get muscle fatigue, though... Like my arms and sometimes my legs are just so heavy. As for joint pain, I have osteoarthritis and it seems much worse in the wintertime. I've started taking pills for it, so that helps tons! ('cept for the unpleasant stomach/intestinal side effects. Oh whee!)

Great isn't it!!

I know I'm not coming down with anything Amalthea cause I get this all the time. Unfortunately I have ME as well so don't know whether it is an episode of that or the SAD

I get a lot of mild muscle pain in the Winter, just put it down to lower immunity in the Winter.

No it's not that Joel/Paulst. Have been tested for that and have no swelling of the joints either.

Cazjenson sorry to hear that, I hope its not too bad.

In the SADdest months my muscles do seem fatigued, and my temperature does feel like it rises in the evenings (never actually taken my temperature to see if it really does), but I don’t get any real joint pain beyond an aching level.

I just thought that I would enquire if you had been screened for a cause other than SAD for your muscle and joint woe, even though they are usually listed as symptoms of SAD. A number of my familiar members and friends have autoimmune disorders that have symptoms similar to my physical SAD symptoms. Rheumatoid arthritis is the only one of them which I could think of that has links to seasonality.

If my exercise science lecturer catches me using ‘muscle fatigue’ in this context, I will be a dead man. :)

Anyhow, I hope we don’t get too achy this year.

Suzie, I know you said you don't have arthritis but for the benefit of others, I wanted to second Joel.

Anyone who has aches probably ought to be screened for other causes, just in case. I have aches that are worse in the wintertime (or perhaps I perceive them as worse because I am in poor moods!). I have osteoarthritis and am now receiving a non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drug (NSAID - diclofenac sodium) which is helping me tremendously... and making the SAD more livable as I'm in less pain!

FYI-I'm 28 years old with arthritis. Bummer. :I

Your poor thing Amalthea, that is very young to be having to suffer with arthritis.

I agree with both you and Joel, it is important to get evalulations from your GP to ensure that it is nothing more sinister. I have had blood tests and for a period of time had an elevated ESR level which indicates there is inflammation.

I know the muscle fatigue is also part of my ME but do feel it gets worse in the winter when the SAD kicks in. Maybe its a mixture of both?

My Nana used to be worse re stiffness etc in the winter, also wet weather. Sometimes it provided a reliable weather forecast!

http://uk.weather.com/maps/lifestyles/intlachesandpains/index_large.html is on the same page as the SAD MAP but I think they're having problems with it at the moment, it doesn't seem to work every day
