I find that when I am having a particularly bad episode the whole world and the people around me appear as if I am in a virtual reality game.. Everything seems a little "grainy" and dreamlike as if I am wearing a virtual reality helmet that i can't remove and I am being forced to interact with my environment and its characters, which just happens to be a virtual simulation of my own everyday life!
Does anyone else ever feel this effect or am I just a ICKLE bit bonkers? ... (or maybe flashbacks from the early 80's)

PS... I am new to the site by the way.. so I'd just like to say H E L L O ! xx

I find that when I'm in difficult situations things seem alittle surreal and I ant it all to stop. e.g. very noisy environment, or somewhere else that I'm uncomfortable for whatever reason. Situations that I deal with fine when I'm well.

Hi Pipster, as Hadrian says it sounds like detachment which can be a side effect of medication when you start taking it. Have you recently gone on medication?

When I do get a heavy depression, I liken it to being in a test tube. I can see the whole world, but I can not take part. I try to desperately climb up and out, but I keep sliding down.

I seem to get this without medication, its another one of my prompts that ive not used my lightbox or done any exercise for a few too many days.

Me x

Hey pipster!
I've had many episodes in the pastlike you've described.
I think what you're referring to is called derealisation and/or depersonalisation, do a google on either and you'll probably find it interesting reading.
I too find that if I forget to use my lightbox this sensation creeps up, it kinda starts off like feeling stoned but without the funny bits.

Good luck OBE

Hi Pipster, I get that surreal feeling too sometimes, everything looks a bit different and feels different. When I speak it sounds unatural, like it's not really coming from me. You're not bonkers, well, unless we all are! ;-)
