I think it's a listed side effect for some med. I can't remember if it's that or something else. I get it but it really doesn't bother me much of the time. I'm sometimes aware of it.

Ringing in the ears can be a symptom of mercury poisoning. I mention this because I learned it myself when I joined a mercury forum; and I've had it off and on after my amalgams came out, and when I've been chelating, though it is mild and short-lived.

There are of course other things that can cause tinnitus but this is one possible line of investigation. Yes it can be a side effect of an antidepressant. It can also be a symptom of infection. If you only started noticing it after you began taking the med, then it's pretty likely that the med is the cause.

thanks linda I have looked on the side effects sheet but it doesn't say that it is one. I don't remember if it happened last year. I will have to ask the GP on Friday.

ringing in the ears could be caused by many things....medication of many different kinds, loud noise, tmj problems, ear infection, tumors, high blood preesure, high colestrol, etc etc etc this list in endless. Have you been to a concert lately or like listening to the television loud? What about the movie theaters? Have you been there lately? Your place of employment? is it louder then most other places? Do you smoke? Drink coffee? How about chocolate? Do you like sweets? Do you drink alcohol? Have you ever been in an accident? what about major whiplash? Have you ever been hit in the face/jaw? Have you ever fell and hit your head/face? How is your posture? do you walk with your back straight? How about now? How are you sitting now? your back is straight? Have you ever had your tooth/teeth pulled or worked on? Ever had braces? Ever had fillings done? What about cavities? Ever had them? Hows your hearing? Any infections lately in your ears? Have you ever had ear infections, specially when you were a child?
Anything that i listed above can be related to ringing in the ears. You may try some natural supplements but dont count on them to work... Theres no cure for ringing in the ears...the treatment is all trial and error...Is your ears ringing all the time or just once in a while? Do they ring in both ears or just one? Do they get worst when your watching television/watching a movie? Do they get worst after you drink caffiene/or alcohol? Do they get worst after taking certian medication? Do you notice the ringing all the time, or is it mostly at night before you go to bed? Does it keep you up at night or isnt it that bad?

i think I've always had it to a greater or lesser degree, but never really thought about it being tinnitus, although I had heard of the condition. It was only when I had a discussion with my ds and his drum teacher in relation to looking after his ears/hearing, that I realised that it was indeed something that I had. I just thought it was a normal thing... low level

I was just checking on line for side effects of the AD drug and it said that ringing in the ears is a side effect but didn't say if it would go away.
