Am i the only one who finds late december to mid january the most hardest period of the year when it comes to SAD??
This has probablly been talked about before, but i was just curious if im the only one who struggles most in that period.

I always find things get worse mainly the week before xmas, then usually gets better end of january like stained glass said.
Does anybody find it starts to give them some sort of social anxiety??

Also off subject sort of, is it possible to put up images in a post? as i done a graph of my mood through the year and thought it maybe good to compare it with others?

I'm usually ok in December but this year it's been terrible. January is always bad. Yes hbk, I get anxious about social occasions at this time of year too, just after xmas seems to be the worst time. Good idea about the mood graph, would be interested to see it.

I've found in the past that Feb. is the hardest month; however this year so far Nov., Dec., and now Jan. seem to be equally hard. Just got up and it is snowing AGAIN. It is gray AGAIN. Does anyone else feel like a little plant that is being kept in the closet? If I don't see some sun pretty soon I don't know if I'll survive.

Yeh Megs - feel like a sunflower with no sun!!!!

Snowing here too but I actually quite like snow (about the only thing in winter that I do like) - it's the greyness that I hate!

January is nearly always my worst month, but I'm hoping that since October, November and December have been so truly and completely horrific this year, that January will be lovely in comparison!

I think that since the days are getting longer we are all looking forward to sunflowers spring and the warmer weather.
Hope and pray that the days will move alittle faster and we will all feel better soon.

Meg, Sandy and SGL, I feel like that too. I find the dullness so oppressive, sometimes I feel panicky with it, like I'm trapped in a dark room. Roll on spring!!!!

You got that right. I get very agitated and tight chested with the dark days. But I also can't stand loud noises. We went to a skating competion today but I couldn't stand it for to long. The music was to loud but it was bright. I liked that part of it. I stuck tissues in my ears just so I could stay there for a couple of hours. Lucky I had a hat on so no one could see my ears.

At the best of times I hate a lot of loud noise. On the whole I can't cope with loud music. I can cope with orchestral/band for short periods. I'm particularly sensitive to it in the winter. It all starts to fall into place.... a long time before I was diagnosed we went to see Lindisfarne in concert and I had to stuff my ears full of tissues! Hands over my ears as well! That was December. A few years ago I tried again.. went to see Jools Holland and wore earplugs right through the whole event.

You know I get agitated by loud noises. The times ive been in a restaurant, and the sound of plates, cutlery, children and people and..and...AND... they echo all around the room and I end up feeliing like im gonna ...b.u.r.s.t... . Sometimes I actually have, other times I have left without eating my meal. Its so overpowering....

These days i 'feel' the noiseness of the room before sitting down.

How strange, that we feel like this.

but we most likely all do I do and I find it very hard to deal with the public noises. There was alot of people at the skating rink blowing horns for there team I thought I was going to burst. I try to avoid stuff like that. In the summer I don't mind the noise at all but winter it is like a bubble that is going to burst.

yep the bubble analogy is spot on. It also feels like the worst pmt ever. Before today, my husband and I have always blamed pmt. Perhaps its a combination of both. I imagine that the SAD and pmt combo could possibly be truely explosive given the right situation.

SAD makes you withdrawn, pmt makes you want to scream. Roll on the menopause! Oh gosh, perhaps not!

Me yes I got to the doctors. I now take Imovane and adivan when I go to bed to sleep and then if I wake up in the night I take another adivan. It seems to be helping. Now I just have to fill my afternoons with something and am working on that.
