hey I seem to have a lot of reverse symptons then everyone else. for instance I cant sleep in I get up real early and im forced to just get up I cant go back to sleep.

another oppsite is for the whole day I will be depressed and find it very hard to concentrate then at like 9, 9:30pm excatly! I will START to wake up. its insane my day literally starts at 9pm. its 9:40pm right now and the only reason im writing this message is cause of the time! I can finally concentrate for more then a second. anyways SAD has litterally ruined my life and im just hoping for lack of a better word it will get better every year.. or best case I will have enough money to move someone warm all season long.

anyways whole idea of this post is does anyone else have this problem of waking up mentally when the day is over and how did you change it?

Hi Lynx and welcome. How do you feel and sleep in the summer? It may be that your problems are not wholly related to SAD which is why you're not helped by light therapy?

I think that early morning waking is one of the classic indicators of depression. I know when my OH was struggling emotinonally a few years ago he would wake at 4am and be unable to sleep. He found that hynotherapy (amongst other things) helped with the sleeping but his was very much caused by specific external factors.

It may just be that you require less sleep than you think, OH now wakes at 6am reguarly and that's fine for him, we tend to go to bed fairly early (I need looooottttsss of sleep!) so he is fine on the sleep that he gets.

Hopefully others may have words of wisdom for you as well.

Hi lynx5, welcome to the forum. I suffer from sad and sometimes really struggle to get any sleep, I have changed my medication this year and now sleep a lot better. Are you taking medication? sometimes that can make a big difference to the amount of sleep you get.

Lynx5 I think what you have I have. Reverse symptoms of sad. I have insomnia, loss of appetite and loss of weight. Not everyone has the same symptoms. I take adivan and imovane to sleep at night. You might want to talk to you GP and see what they can do.

i am the exact same, although when they say the reverse symtpoms it does not mean i am more energetic in the winter than summer because i feel shattered. i just feels like my body/mind clock for sleeping is broke in the winter, beyond tired, total insomnia. also my lightbox definetly has an effect the rest of the year but since december it has been a nightmare.

Yeh Lynx5, I have kind of similar symptoms. I perk up after it gets dark and then can't get to sleep properly until dawn when I go into really deep sleep and feel like I'm coming out of a coma when the alarm goes off. Then I feel shattered and yawn the whole day. I agree with Rangers - it feels like my body-clock is totally out of phase.

I get sleeping pills every few weeks to try and knock me out of the pattern, but my doctor doesn't want me to take them for more than a week at a time in case I get addicted to them, and as soon as I stop taking them I go back to the same pattern.

It's only in winter this happens. The rest of the year I only sleep about 5 hours a day but it's at night and I feel energetic the rest of the day. Can't wait till Spring when I'm like that again!!!
