Gosh you lot are lucky.

No snowdrops here, and Im sure its dark earlier than that here. Oh and the wind ha been so cruel today. But I did spot that the grass had grown a tiny bit - probably because the wind had blown the leaves off the grass!

Yesterday I saw some quite long daffodil shoots in the garden. My snowdrops I think have been wiped out by the builders! Will have to take a stroll round the garden and see what's left! Can't afford to sort the garden this year on grounds of time or ££, still too much to do in the house. But now we have big windows out onto the garden it would be good to have it looking tidy.

My garden is abit of a mess at the moment, there are lots of shoots coming up but I planted so many bulbs last year, I simply cant remember what they are. I just need some dry weather so I can do more than just look at the garden.

7.5 hours of murky sunlight here. No frost today though - at last.

Still no sign of snowdrops, they seem a little later this year. But have seen a few daffodil leaves starting their reach for Spring.

Haven't seen any spring flowers yet but really have noticed the difference in the length of the days. Sun goes down at 4.07 (yay) and with our long twilight that means that there's still light in the sky till 5 on some nights. Might not sound like much but it's made a big difference to my mood (if not my alertness or sociability) - I can actually take pleasure in a lovely sunset or from a good book again. For the last few months its seemed like enjoyment was a completely alien concept to me and I was just enduring the empty endless days! Roll on proper spring!!!!!!

ps love the sunset/sunrise calculator purpleivy - I check it every day now!!!2 months and 3 days from today the day is longer than the night here - yeehah! And didn't get a chance to say I'm sure that your daughter will love coming up here to study - as long its summer that is!!!

has anyone ever tried nighttime strolls? When the night is clear and starry, even better with a good moon, a walk (esp if you're away from a city) can be very therapeutic - and surprisingly bright. Happy day, all A

Hey lovethesun

I'm in Edinburgh and the latitude's 55'55'. I think our earliest sunset was 3.47 - not a good day for me!! Though at least on our longest day in the summmer the sun doesn't set till 9 - roll on those days!

Hey Aaron - most of my walks these days are at night cos can't seem to get myself moving in the daytime. I do enjoy them, though I'm right in the middle of the city so light pollution kind of fogs out most of the stars. I once lived in the desert (oh happy winters there!)and one of my most beautiful memories is spending hours staring up into the sky and seeing stars everywhere!

Sounds lovely Aaron, I love night time strolls in the country, not quite the same in London though, you can't really see the stars ;-)

Wow Sandy, you lived in the desert? Whereabouts? That sounds wonderful!

Oh Sandy - beautiful Edinburgh but with extra wintry darkness ..!

Because I devoured a huge tiramisu for my pud, I forced myself to walk home under a starry sky by the sea tonight (in Brighton).

Two miles of sheer contentment.

Today - after days and days of rain, rain rain and yes you've guessed it, more rain ...

Sunshine all morning until 2.30pm. I cycled 13 miles - big indicator of recovery for me - along the seafront. Cool, clear and sunny.

Truly magnificent.

Spring start in the end of March it just depends on the begining of winter. They always say if it comes in like a lion it will go out like a lamb. We had snow early but the farmers alminac says we are still in for more in Feb. It will be whatever god intends it to be I guess.

Feels like autumn here at the moment. Weve had so much gale force wind over the last 48 hours or so its getting to become normal to dodge the fallen trees and guess when the electrics going off again!

Hope the spring bulbs survive.

Hey, Guess what

My snowdrops are flowering - brilliant.

Snow drops are small flowers that come from small garden bulbs. they have lovely straight almost vertical green leaves which are about 20cms longand the flower is a pure white ball type flower which dangles from its stem. They spread, so generally grow with loads of others. Somestime the whole ground can be covered in them.

They are cute and so pure, and whilst they are a winter bulb, they give us the knowledge that spring is not far away.

They are often seen on christmas cards.

Joel,

We currently have red squirrels in this area, however, it looks like the greys may have reached us so the reds will no doubt die of the pox soon.

Real shame, smashing creatures.

I've never seen a red squirrel in the wild, but I think that they are cuter than the greys.

I do hope they survive.
