I went to the library and the above book grabbed my attention. I dont want to lose weight though, and Im not sure if it would work for that anyway yet - it was the title that intreged me.

Its quite interesting:-

Apparently I can have a nap in the afternoon if I want to(something Ive never heard of before - quite reassuring really).

I think you'll also be interested that it says that we burn more fat whilst asleep than during aerobic exercise. (bet that grabbed your attention too!)

The diet bit:
So basically, it gets the brain to burn fat, especially when we are asleep. When we are stressed, apparently, our bodies get the energy from muscle, so if we have sufficiently stocked up our livers before we go to bed, our brain can burn up a huge amount of calories.

So you eat a low gi type diet.
Cut down on Aerobic exercise
Take 3 lots of 20mins resistance training per week - not much really and you are not to get too stressed.

Eat honey!!!!!!! Two teaspoons, or more depending on your size, at night in a drink or on wholemeal toast etc. It stores in the liver as easy brain food for the night and your brain doesnt panic.

My interest:
As Ive started to wake up again at 2.00am every morning and cant get back I thought that maybe my liver could have run out of food, and maybe my brain switching from one source of food to another could be a cause of my waking at the same time each night.

First night I woke up as normal. Second night I slept right the way through, really, really, deeply. I even dreamed for the first time in ages. I got a stinking headache prior to sleeping though but that could be due to the lower sugar level and increase in water to almost 2litres.

Whilst not actually mentioning SAD, It does actually mention most of the individual symptoms, such as carb cravings, the link between food and forgetfulness, immune function, depression, irritable bowel, the brain (TATT - Tired all the time), high blood pressure, cardiovascular health etc

Im feeling quite bright at the moment. My nap this afternoon, resulted in a 2 hour doze, and when my (just in case) alarm woke me up I was in so deep, I didnt know where I was. I didnt even go to my exercise class today.

Im off to take my bedtime drink now, Or should I have honey on toast hmmmmm

For those of you that have managed to troll through this message, the website on the back of the book it www.hibernationdiet.com. I havent looked at it yet though.

Night, night, Ill let you know how I get on.

Zzzzzz

I feel blinded by science! I don't have the concentration to read and understand something like this, never mind decide if there might be something in it. Is it just a bit tongue in cheek?

Well, here goes:-

I am sleeping hugely deeper and still dreaming, but for 5 hours exactly -longer than before.

The afternoon nap isnt going well. The initial 2 hours, is now spreading to an uncontrollable 4 hours (Im totally exhausted), and Im sure that shouldnt be happening.

Ive dropped my exercise slightly and stopped eating food with obvious sugars added to it. Increased my water in take to 1.5 litres a day (any more and I will drown). have wholemeal everything, and 5 a day fruit and veg.

I should be feeling great after almost a week.

Im not!!!!

Ive not lost any weight, I feel constantly shattered, and I think that everyone is out to get me again - bad sign!

I thought that perhaps balancing the blood sugar would help, it hasnt at all. I must have eaten the extra sugar to lift me to a normal level.

One good thing is that I am sleeping deeper. Oh and it has emphased that I get extrememly tired after eating lunch. So perhaps Im intolerant of wheat.

Looks like thats my next plight. Thinking about going to see the doc again to get this sorted. Something isnt right, and Im getting a little fed up to say the least.

Or perhaps it is just SAD and Im STILL trying to come to terms with it.

Reckon I might go back on 5htp, I feel so low again, it will not be long before I burst.

So PI, you could be right, but there is nothing to lose from a good diet routine, so ive decided to stick with it for a bit longer and omit wheat for a while to see how I feel (I had an intolerance test many years ago that said I was intolerant to a number of things, wheat was one).

Anyone else tried it?

Hmmmmmm. come to think of it....

Maybe wheat intolerance would explain why I find it easier to get back off to sleep having had a sandwich during a restless night.

Hmmmmm

I find that if I have things other than sandwiches/bread at lunch time I feel better in the afternoon... but I LIKE bread! LOL

BTW, I think you should consider looking at a GL food plan rather than a GI one.
