Does anyone have good things to say today. Like I won $15 dollars on a scratch lottory ticket today that only cost me $6 dollars to buy. I thought that was a good thing. It cheared me up. It was SUNNY the day I bought it.

I cleared out my desk last night and found a £3.50 Tesco voucher.

Kids thought my bubble and squeak was the best they'd ever had (garlic granules, herbs, salt, pepper and onion granules)

Ive got a good one!!

Being as positive as ever (not), ive cracked my tiredness at last.

I did the hibernation diet, didnt work. But it did stablise my sugar levels. This made me realise that I always feel sleepy after a sandwich meal (3 hours sleep in fact!). When i had a meal without a sandwich I was fine, after having a sandwich I am absolutely shattered within 10 mins.

So, I decided to cut out wheat for now. Had two days with no wheat and stabilised sugar levels - Feel absolutely fantastic. Even slept two nights proper - no waking, no insomnia - brilliant. Think my brains getting better, and my aerobic class of 2 hours today was a doddle even though it was hard.

No supplements or minerals helped this time, just diet. Just got to look into it deeper to work out whether its the whole wheat, yeast, or a part of the wheat that I am troubled by. Back to the doctor for help with that soon .

This is the best good thing that has happened for ages.

Even my car breakin down didnt stress me, I just thought of it as an adventure for the kids on the bus.

How does this fit is with SAD? Well I have a theory. My SAD makes me crave carbs, so of course I head for wonderful sandwiches, cakes, scones, teacakes etc. This of course makes me more tired, so I crave more carbs - vicious circle dont you think. Thats why I always wanted a pudding after a meal - to try to wake me up, which it did but then dumped me later. If only I knew this earlier. Also explains why having a sandwich in the middle of the night helps me sleep!! It so simple its stupid.

How about that for special!!

Me x

Left over mashed potato and traditionally cabbage, fried in a pan. We just use whatever veg we have left in with the potatoes. Where do you live Meg? I did wonder if our Antipodean and North American friends would know!

BTW, slept till 6.15 again this morning. Ace!

Ive got another...

Since ditching the wheat, Ive lost half a stone in three days without trying. (Sorry hopeless at converting to metric!!) and feel bl**dy perfect.

Also been asked to take two warmups for exercise classes to settle me in. Starting to feel more relaxed about it now, my confidence is coming back.

Purpleivy that's so strange about you sleeping better because for the last two nights I've also had almost completely undisturbed sleep for the first time since October. I've not been trying anything new - I just put it down to the increased light. It's great, though, I've really noticed the difference in my mood and energy! Isn't it strange that it can just happen all of a sudden.

Me .. I've been thinking of cutting wheat out for a while but have been put off because it seems so difficult (and I am extremely lazy just now). How do you manage without bread and pasta?

PurpleIvy,
I'm in Michigan, USA; the land of gray skies, high winds and snow; as of this moment we have 4 degrees and a windchill of -22. I plan to try your bubble and squeak. Do you cook it in some sort of fat?

Hello everyone
Just to add to the other comments, I too have had undisturbed sleep for the first time in months during this last week and I seem to have more energy (not much but every little helps!). I have to say though that my craving for bread and pasta foods is still at its winter high along with my weight!

Sandy.

It just takes planning. When you go shopping take time to notice foods without wheat. Find alternatives that you like for bread, breakfasts, puddings - you can still have the treats just got to modify.

Oatcakes, Porridge, fruit crumble (made with museli-no wheat variety) wheat free breads, lots of fruits, juices. Corn tortillas, I think granola has no wheat also. Its easy with planning. Check out some websites for alternatives.

I tried a wheat free pasta once, but wasnt impressed.

Once you know what youre doing then start it.

Im not trying to push anyone into this by the way, Im just relaying my personal findings, everyones different.

We do have a snow storm and High winds going on right now but the good thing is it is bright and the sun is peeking through the cloud. Plus 1 1/2 week till holiday time.

Glad to hear that those of you who talked about sleeping better are feeling better. It won't be long until the time changes and we all will be sleeping better.

Having a good day overall, today. We had an ice storm, so I'm getting a paid day off of work.

I will be working tomorrow, but I'm happy about it. Basically, I'll be meeting up with a co-worker and I'll get paid for what's going to end up being a "photography class." This means I might be asked to take photos at some events... and maybe make a little extra cash.

And, today, I got in my closet and put on a pair of jeans... and they were snug. Just as I was getting ready to feel really down about it, I decided to take them off and make sure I was wearing the ones I thought I was. Turns out, it was a pair that I'd put aside because they were too tight to wear. It sounds silly, but "snug" in this case isn't all that bad!

I've really been working hard to lose weight. My weight is the major thing that gets me down during SAD months. My biggest fear is diabetes... my mother, aunt, uncle and grandmother all were diagnosed with it, so I'm "next in line."

So, I'm headed in the right direction!

PS - Had a laugh earlier today. I heard a hawk... right outside my apartment! I was in my PJ's, scrambling to get dressed.

I take a look out the window, and I see a blue jay. Heh... I stopped rushing. I'd been on the cellphone with mom at the time and I told her, "I don't think a blue jay could do THAT good of a hawk imitation." That bird proved me wrong!

It's been a good bird-watching day, too. I've seen drenched chickadees, a frazzled-looking white-breasted nuthatch, a cardinal and the usual finches and sparrows... all of them look miserable. Well, except for the red-bellied woodpecker that showed up... it always seems cheery. Well, I might be a bit biased, 'cause it's my current favorite other than the one-legged tufted titmouse that visits the feeder.

Amalthea I to watch the birds and feed them in the back yard. I have alot the humming bird feeders around my yard as well. I have tons of flowers in my yard so the humming birds hit on them as well. Spring is just around the corner.

I love Spring, just because the birds come back and they sing and show off to find mates. I realized one of the things that's hard about winter is that since it's dark when I go to work and was dark until I got home up until about two weeks ago, I wasn't hearing the birds chirping... Things seem so "dead" in the wintertime.

You can do anything from dry frying in a non-stick pan, olive oil, goose fat (have some in the fridge) whatever you prefer or your health will allow!

Just saved a lot of hassle and some money at the pharmacy. I won't have to mail my scripts off to get filled by a mail-order pharmacy.

Now, I can go to the grocery store that's five minutes away and get most of my scripts filled there for the same price (or cheaper!) and a lot less hassle!

I will be back on the 23 or 24 of Feb. So don't worry. I will soak up as much as I can. It will be on the hands and face mostly due to the weather is sunny but anywhere from 45 to 71 it goes up and down every day.
I will miss you all to.

SGL - enjoy your holiday. I'm doing something similar. I had been in France for a weekend only a couple of weeks ago, and the few extra degrees of warmth, the extra half hour of light per day and the better weather (sunshine almost every day, despite frequent winds) were a tonic. So I'm returning there in 5 hours time for a week. Purpleivy will turn green with envy ... A

This second spell in France is truly a tonic. Mild/coldish days - sometimes strong mistral winds - but sunshine all day. Cold nights - perect combination.

Will repeat this next year; has been a morale booster ... good night all
