Hi- I found out I have SAD and started using a 10,000 LUX lightbox just before Christmas for 30 minutes first thing in the morning. It seemed to help for a while, but lately I have gotten worse again - far more irritable, the depression is bad, etc. My doctor doesn't know much about light boxes so I'm trying 45 minutes now each morning. Do others tend to get worse as the months go on? Is this the norm (I know everyone is different - just looking for feedback). Also, the distributor of my lightbox says 60 min. is usually the max. What do others find works best? Thanks - any help greatly appreciated.

Me again, I forgot to ask - how long do I give 45 minutes a trial for to see if it helps. I guess I'm asking how long it takes to see results when you increase the time of light you get? Thanks.

Ill try to answer from my prospective.

Dont panic - just listen to your body. As the winter months progress, you may need more light, reducing again as the spring comes - its quite normal.

Some people see a result straight away (like me) others take a few days for it to charge the batteries.

Again, dont panic flower, your body will tell you when its feeling better.

I find that the lightbox gets me motivated in the morning. However, exercise is the thing that really makes me feel happier and gives me a lift. Im always going on about it (sorry) but exercise is an amazing thing and can help with a number of ailments.

Me x

Hi Me:
Thanks - you're right, I am panicking! I too exercise and find it helps a little (I'll take any help I can get!). I do my walk first thing in the morning. I just find the depression getting so bad. So, I'll do like you say and not panic, just increase the light by 15 minutes a day and see what happens. Thanks so much.

Depends on the lamp as well. I find I don't need as long with my current lamp as I did with my old one. I start in September and carry on till about March/April, depending on the weather and how I'm feeling.
