I'm on porridge I think this morning, cold, dark, wet, windy. A perfect breakfast for today I think. And the end of the honey needs using up as well. Yes, it's carbs, but never mind.

Granola - low GI is lovely.

Porridge with apple or banana to sweeten if not honey.

Grapefruit (if Im exercising - i get stitch)

fruit and veg juice- just bought a new juicer so

Fruit smoothie - fresh prepared juice with yogurt and perhaps bran some granola to add some extra fibre.

Low gi nut/seed bars, great if in a rush

Barring all that how about a full english breakfast!!! Yummmmmmm (low fat of course)

THis looks good. SO many of the recipes I have seen seem to have a lot of oil or butter in them.

Do you make the low GI choc brownies too? Pretty please?

What are you like PI? lol

Ok here goes:-

Pecan Brownies (with cocoa - yum yum) makes 16

1 can (410g white or red kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
120ml skimmed milk
2 eggs
50g soft non-hydrogenated margarine - melted
1tbsp vanilla essence
sweetener equivalent to 180g sugar
60g wholemeal flour
60g unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
75g chopped toasted pecans

puree beans till coarse.
Add milk, eggs, marg, and vanilla and puree till completely smooth - set aside

In big bowl mix sweetener, four cocoa baking powder, salt.

Put bean mixture in flour mixture and stir.

Put mixture in to 20cm square baking tin lined with greaseproof paper. Smooth top and sprinkle nuts.

180oC for approx 19 mins or skewer is clean when inserted. cool on rack.

Can be frozen for up to 2 weeks if necessary else eat within 4 days.

They are delicious, you wouldnt need much as they are so filling. Only problem could be 'wind'! - Worth it though.

You know there are lots of wonderful recipes in GI cook books and the best thing is you dont need to be on a diet to enjoy them

I love them, they are healthy and you dont need to feel guilty eating them, as they all fill you up - even the choc brownie.

Was on the phone with the dietician last night and I forgot to ask her.

The question here is, if carbs cause our bodies to have more short-term energy boosts and then get sleepy again... Wouldn't we be better off having protein for breakfast?

I was looking for lean protein ideas (not bacon, sausage). Lately, I've had a breakfast I love... very tasty, but I don't know if it's really giving me a good balance of protein/carbs. I eat whole wheat waffles and I put yogurt on them (6g protein).

I'm considering protein shakes, if I can find anything tasty enough that isn't loaded with calories or fat.

I got granola from the health shop. Its very, very tasty, better than other cereals in my opinion, but very low GI, so I can eat loads and be full up - no wheat in this version either. Beautiful.
