Just registered on this site, so hi to all. I bought my lamp this Feb after my husband telling me for years that I am a misery every winter. And guess what...it worked. Have started to use it again, for about half an hour in the evenings. Looking at getting a dawn simulator alarm clock-has anyone got one and are they any good? Have also started taking some ST Johns Wort-a 2 pronged approach to keep me happy. I have had a bad 2 weeks and I'm putting it down to the change in the weather and the lack of light. Not able to concentrate, feeling very unsociable and close to tears most of the time.

yeah, I'm getting unsociable now, though I have agreed to meet Suzie next week LOL!

Things I take in my stride in the summer I find are stressors in the winter.

I like the dawn simulator, doesn't work entirely, but it does help.

At times severe. I take medication now as a matter of course, starting in the autumn, rather than getting really down and unable to cope before getting medication. My GP feels it's best for me to avoid getting down in the first place and I agree with him. Last year I had a couple of days off, the year before 12 weeks off work.

I use the lamp every morning if possible for between half an hour and an hour.. My old one wasn't as good and I did at least an hour.

How often and for how long do you use your lamp? Would you say you have severe SAD, or mild?

I haven't discussed it with my GP as I hardly ever visit. I'm a nurse so I sort stuff out myself. I don't know anyone else who uses a lamp so it's good to talk to you.

I have a dawn simulator, I love it to pieces. It doesnt work like a lightbox. It just gradually provides a light which lights up the room so that when the alarm goes off the room is filled with light as on a summers morning. I wouldnt be without mine. In fact Im beside myself when the bulb blows.

St Johns wort has has some good reports on this forum.

I enjoy the benefits of Omega 3 and 6, vitamins and exercise (to name my basics!)

Be aware that SJW can make your eyes sensitive to light - so be careful with the lightbox.

Wishing you every success this SAD season. Hope you get a routine together with suits you.

Keep popping back for support..

Me x

Hi,
I have a dawn simlulator - the only thing that gets me out of bed at all in dark mornings, and I get up at 5.15am!
I've had it about 5 years now. It's fab! Wouldn't be without it.
I also have a lightbox which I just got last week, and I use it in the mornings when I arrive at work and so far, this seems to be working really well.
Good luck with everything,
Mrs Stan
