Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know my experience of my new lightbox.

I have suffered some nasty bouts of depression since my teens, and Winter has always hit me particularly hard. As a child I used to complain that dark days made me feel sick, and would get told off for leaving the lights on all the time. As an adult, I started to feel I couldn't cope with life in the Winter months, and have always felt anxious, flat and ridiculously tired usually peaking in Jan by which time I want to just jump out of a window!!

Anyway, long story short, I have been on anti-depressants for some time, and 6 months ago dropped my does. Which has been fine, until the last 6 weeks when the horrid old symtoms started to show up again.

Reluctant to give into the pills again, I thought I would give a light a go. And having used it for 3 days, this morning I have got up full of beans, and raring to go!! I can actually feel a 'rush' sensation in my body, similar to how I feel in Spring or when anti-depressants have started to work. sounds silly I know. But the energy I feel this morning hasn't been with me since at least October. I have literally bounced down the stairs and done an hour of excercise (normally a real couch potato).

I can only assume that the light is doing its thing. If so, thank goodness. The other thing I notice this morning is that my thoughts are 'outward' looking for the first time in weeks, rather than the constant, analytical, depressed inward thought pattern that has been dogging me. Today tackling the pile of ironing and other mundane tasks seems no problem at all. Last week, it totally overwhelmed me.

So all I can say is that for me, I really think it has made a difference, and far quicker than I expected.

I really hope that it works for others, SAD and depression are such evil afflictions, and if you haven't suffered it, then you can't fully understand how debilitating it can be. Take care all. x

I'm just so very, very happy for you. Will seriously consider getting a SAD light for myself this coming winter. can't stand the unnecessary suffering. May you,and all of us, have the bounce each winter and summer and every season in between....

Thanks all. I have had a few big mood swings, but I am on day 6 now and seem to be 'stabilising'. Feeling far brighter in the mornings, and I have put my Lumie desklight next to my PC at work, and despite initial interest, no one seems that bothered by it (although it is quite big and bright!!)

Almost a week on I really do feel so much better. I have some proper control on my emotions again and my thoughts are much sharper, the fuzziness has lifted. Much of the anxiety has gone too, and I have energy in the evenings which is amazing. It really is quite remarkable and I am SO pleased I tried it.

My eyes have been sore though, and had a few headaches, but hoping this isn't lasting. To be honest, that is more bearable that the dreadful way I was feeling. Best wishes to all :0)

I have been feeling quite smug with my daily dose of light therapy warding off the February blues. Everyone is moaning about the weather at the moment; a slight degree of SAD seems to be going round like the flu, but I've had my lamp shining since September to beat the crippling last leg of winter in the UK.
