I have just joined. For about 6 years now I have suffered winter anxiety, starting about November and going away about March. It starts with feeling anxious and tired and feeling sick in the mornings, although I rarely bring anything up other than bile.I dont want to go out much and mixing with people becomes harder, even if it's the same people I have known for years.I sleep far too much and drop off continually during the day.I find it hard just to motivate myself for the simplest tasks. My Doctor just calls it anxiety attacks and presribes seroxat tablets. A friend has told me about SAD and I feel I have most of the symtoms described, although my Doctor has never mentioned SAD to me. I feel I should ask the Doctor if I could see someone who specialises in SAD do you think this is what I should do?.

Hi Sherry and welcome. I don't want to sound defeatist, but the chances of your doc being able to find a SAD specialist may be limited. I don't know what the rest of the guys think?

My doc has been supportive, but I'm not sure there is anywhere else he can send me. One thing though. When a pattern of seasonal behaviour had been identified he suggested starting to take a low dose of medication in the autumn as a precautionary measure. I do this and up the dose as I feel I need it and taper off again in the early spring when I start to feel better.

I got b****cked at work for practically falling asleep and one day for being tearful! I was in bed in decent time last night and slept till 9 this morning and lay with my eyes closed for the best part of another hour! I could go to sleep now.

Has your doc checked that there is no underlying health problem?

Hi Sherry. I didn't have great luck with my GP about SAD. I don't think it is as widely recognised as some think. It is always easier for your GP to put you on pills anyway. If I were you I would seek my own information about it. That way you will get to know more than waiting for the GP to find someone.

I have seen my Doctor who thinks I might need cognitive behavioural therapy. We discussed SAD/Winter Blues and lightbox treatment and she said if light therapy works for you then it's OK, so I will give this a try first. Thanks for your comments.

Hey everyone. I live in Nova Scotia Canada, I'm usually upbeat, happy, full of joy, ambitious person. This last week, it went from one extreme to another. I started feeling depressed, anxious, guilty, lack of motivation, don't enjoy things I usually do, and feel emotionally detached. It's never happened before. To make things worst, I'm so full of anxiety and depressed feelings I obsess about my relationship with my girlfriend, if my feelings are true or not, and just makes me feel worst. She's very understanding, where she suffers from depression. I was wondering if anyone has felt this way before in relationships?
