Further to my last post about the firmware upgrade, i think there are a couple of interrelated simple fixes in the upgrade that could really improve the SD Card functionality which, frankly as it stands, is a bit crappy.
a) Support SDHC cards - i.e any SD card over 4GB;
b) Allow detection of more than one MP3 track;
c) Once you have selected the SD Card as the Audio source, allow the use of the Tuning buttons to select different tracks, which you could then tune into the different presets. This would allow you to wake up to one track, and go to sleep to another;
d) Allow repeating of selected track. You could select this when cycling through the Audio Source menu options with the S button;
e) Enable reading of playlists - i.e you can put a playlist file on the SD card, and the clock will pick it up and play the tracks on the SD card on the playlist.
I work in IT, and i have a friend who deals with hardware firmware upgrades, and he feels all of these changes would be easy to implement in a firmware upgrade.
Agree on all your suggestions. To be honest I was very disappointed to find only one track per SD card was being made available. It borders on "mis-selling" to claim it supports SD cards.
The only other thing that strikes me is that I wonder if the Elite 300 actually has the capability of being upgraded ? The assumption being that because it has an SD card slot the designers surely must have made that the source of firmware upgrades, but given that they didn't bother to handle more than one MP3 track, one may wonder ...
