Has anyone tried 5HTP. I have been taking 25 mg a day for 2 days. I have had trouble sleeping and felt very tired and depressed during the day, since starting. I have also had some stomache problems with it.

Hi CJB. Had to search 5HTP on Google as I honestly have never heard of it before. For those in a lack of knowledge situation like me, it gave me:

5-HTP Found in the seed from the African herb Griffonia simplicifolia, 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is a reduced form of the amino acid tryptophan, which is involved in the natural processes that promote serotonin production.

Perhaps it's the amino acids which are upsetting your digestion, maybe a dose every other day to begin with might be a plan. Perhaps a chat with your supplier might a good first step though.....

I see some manufacturers produce a combined St Johns Wort+5HTP. Are you diagnosed as suffering from SAD, and was this recommended to you for that purpose? Have you tried St Johns Wort on its own, I have heard a number of success stories from those with The Winter Blues.

It's a new avenue, let us know how you get on. All the best, Julie
