I don't know if any of you have tried it or know anything about it.

I work in a shop that sells essential oils, and I've been doing lots of reading up about them and the best ones to use for depression, anxiety, negative thoughts and such.

I've decided to try Ylang Ylang, it's really nice and soothing used in an oil burner, and I've got carrier oil (sweet almond) which you need if you want to use it as massage oil.

Other ones you could try if you're interested:

Lavander (always good)
Bergamot
Frankincense

All of these are really good for the sort of thing we are feeling.

Just thought you might like to know :)

There great for SAD because they give you a break from stress, but don't count on them to reset your body clock.

The smells are absoloutly fabulous. I used to use them when I was younger and they used to relaxed me. I totally recomend them.

The following source is from BBCnews and I don't want to be a spoil sport but you guys need to be aware.
Overdoing the oils

She added: "Often the problem is that people use too much of the oils.

"They are very concentrated, powerful, potent substances and you only need a few drops, but people pour half a bottle into their bath or on to their skin and then come out in a rash.

"There has been great popularity for the use of massage on babies, often very young newly-born babies but people have to remember that a drop of oil is like a gallon to a young baby.

"People do need to be careful. We don't want to put people off but we do want to say be sensible."

Nurses have warned that essential oils used in aromatherapy can cause skin burning, rashes, sickness and sometimes miscarriages in pregnant women.

This is a very good point. Lavender oil is probably the best, most widely sold of all the oils. Great for burns, insomnia, migraines, just about everything and is one of the only oils which can be used neat, others must be blended with carrier oils. You can buy ready blended oils which are obviously better for novices. The oils must also state that they are pure oils (and/or blended) if to be used in any other form than oil burner. Some places do still sell oils which are intended strictly for burner use only as they are synthetic, perfumed and can be harmful to the skin and only put a very tiny messege on the bottle. I have heard of people not used to using oils, thinking these were safe to use on the skin and having problems.
CERTAIN OILS MUST NOT BE USED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DURING PREGNANCY
There are very good books about aromatherapy which I would advise reading before using oils as some can be suprisingly harmful and you really should know what you are doing before using.
I wrote before that when I was having a particularly bad night (panick attacks), my mum massage my head with Lavender oil until I fell asleep. It was great, really calmed me down. Also Laveder pillows, teddy bears and ything you can find that sits on your bed gives you a very relaxing sleep. I have found it very concerning that you can buy Lavender air fresheners for the car, I steer very clear (geddit :P )

Oh yes, the old stinky sticks are one of my favs too. I've got some of those little cones that somebody bought me for Christmas. I usually find them a bit overpowering but these are really nice.

If you ever see them try cedar wood or sandelwood both are very nice and if you put some nice sounds on close your eyes you can drift away into the forest.. beats the **** out of prozac

Oooh, I love Sandlewood. Do you know of any makes that are good or anywhere to get good ones. I've bought some before and they've been so strong, they've given me a Migraine and it's put me off a bit, unless I find some I really like the smell of. I end up lighting them next to an open window, which obviously defeats the object. Surely the person who would know best would be a real hippy :D

Hi all aromatherapy/hippy folk!

Yes, Julie the other Nag Champa fan signing in! I use it everyday, it is wonderful! As a complete escape, I light a stick, switch on the lava lamp, put candles all along the mantelpiece and the hearth, cuddle up with my leopard skin fleece on a truly plump sofa, even light the fire sometimes, put on some deep music and I am away!

Again, this is not a cure for sad, but an hour or so out of it!

Any more recommendations for us by way of wonderful incense oldhippy, that's if anything beats Nag Campa!

Warm wishes to you all. Julie

Aroma stone. Plug in. Put nice smelly oil on and it fragrances the room without having to worry about naked flames, water evaporating etc

You could get them from boots but I haven't seen any in there for ages but I'm going to have a look around because I want another one.

As well as aromatherapy, herbal tablets are good such as ginko bilboa, also if you get a hanky or tissue and put a few drops of clary sage and basil aromatherapy oils onto it, it helps to feel much better too! :D

It could be very dissapointing like seeing Stiff little fingers 25 years after there angst ridden Belfast upbringing which brought the songs that rocked. It was like a cabaret..........
Anyway Pingu and Noddy fans rule the tv in this house, sometimes they allow me to play PS2 when there will is so..................... :(
