Could it be that that us SADS are descended from equatorial/tropical stock and our hypothalumus has not had time to evolve to lower light conditions?

it could be, but it also could be just because in modern society we have lost the whole sleep at night thing.
People wouldnt work at night, they would adjust to work within the hours of light. So maybe they would sleep more in winter time (i do hope so)
and thats why its more known today.
