-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I am an above-average I.Q. male, 40, and I need an answer to a recurring problem. I get, at about 9-12, to 9-30, about ONE week of SEVERE eating, SEVERE drinking, NO to little, (and then crappy), sleep, coupled with the feeling that I'm either crawling out of my skin, want to sleep all the time, and/or want NO physical contact, even by loved ones. I have a history of migraines, so I know I have some hormonal involvement, here. But, I, (and my wife is starting to plan for these yearly episodes), have gotta get a handle on this. Other than this, life is as normal as can be, and I have no complaints. Any Ideas? Geordie

I suffer from SAD and love some aspects of winter too. I like the snow, and I don't see much of it here, near London in the UK. There is nothing I like better then a walk on a bright and frosty morning, well almost nothing. I love to ride my motorcycle on fresh soft snow in the country. I hate the gloomy overcast days.
With respect to your other notes, I would recommend reading the book, the Winter Blues, is a really good start. Check it out on Amazon or similar site.
Karl; I will ABSOLUTELY check 'Winter Blues' out, and I REALLY appreciate the reply. By the way, I ride, too. I haven't had the chance to be out in the snow, at all. (It doesn't snow as much as it used to, here in D.C., either.) I miss it. p.s. I'm on a Suzuki Katana 750, 2000. Thanks, Geordie
Your symptoms sound familiar, they just seem to be more confined to a particular time of year than mine. Is there anything in your life that makes you more stressed at that particular time of year, as I understand stress uses up more of the Seratonin etc that SAD sufferers lack. I also love Winter when it's bright and crisp and snowy. It's the never ending grey skies of Northern England that I hate.
