I live in Crete, Greece. Recently, for more than a month now, the weather has been awful with little sunshine and lots of rain. For the past few weeks I've been feeling so tired and lethargic, sleeping more than 10 hours at night and again for an hour or so after lunch. I had an attack of the flu 4 weeks ago which really knocked me for six. Then I happened to mention my tiredness to an English friend, who said that I could be a SAD sufferer - something I'd never heard of. I decided to check it out and found this website. So many of the symptoms seem familiar; I've put on 10 kilos since December and I feel too tired to get on with chores around the house. Everything seems so difficult. Does this mean I'm SAD? If so, what can I do to relieve the symptoms? I saw the ads for lightboxes etc. but I can't get hold of anything like that here. Can I just use brighter lighting in the house? And if so, what?

Cristy ~ there is a Forum member who lives in Turkey who appears to be a SAD sufferer, despite being so much further south than the UK. His name is Armagan Top. The Forum Index seems to be down at the moment, but once it's back you will find his contact details there. You might find that you need to do quite a bit more research before you self-diagnose yourself with SAD. Whatever you do don't let the thought that you might be suffering from SAD mask the fact that it might just be something else which needs your Doctor's attention, eg. your flu attack might be completely to blame for how you feel at the moment. Hope you feel better really soon. Julie

Julie, thanks for your reply. Can you believe this? Yesterday was a gorgeous sunny day so I spent time in the morning walking my dog. It's also a beautiful bright morning today so I did the same. Yesterday, I felt much better and today I feel positive about handling the mundane jobs about the house. As you say, it's possible that I'm not a SAD sufferer but the sun really does make you feel good! I'll take steps to ensure that I get as much light as possible. The houses here all have shutters over the windows which I have to close when it rains because the rainwater comes in and also my husband insists on closing them at night so I have to open them all the minute I get out of bed. If, by making sure I get enough light, I feel better, then that's what I'll do. Again, thanks.
