Ok not sure if everyone else experiences this problem as SAD starts to kick in, but in the last couple of days I've gone from eating healthy for the last few months and cutting out almost all snacks containing lots of sugars & junk food etc and eating a lot more fruit & veg to eating a whole big bucket of popcorn and pack of pringles in the space of half an hour and eating snack after snack, my hunger only subsides when tiredness kicks in. Now feeling pretty tired after a binge and have got a bad head, not sure if it's a direct result of lack of sunlight, daylight hours or the fact that eating lots of food generally makes you tired. Anyone else started to binge? How does everyone else deal with the extreme food cravings?

Last winter, I resorted to stocking up on fairtrade dried fruit, instead of chocolate by the 400g bar! It did seem to help weight wise and the bannana chips/ tropical mix/ apricots etc. were quite tasty too.

After coming to know about this specific problem that was completely alien to me as I have already confessed I started looking for solutions to the problem but I was even more depressed as I could not get any reliable answers to this. Looks like there are so many individual problems associated and something like binging can only call upon problems, it is the people themselves who have to make out a way to defend against the problem.

Well I am glad it is not just me - I too have noticed binging on crisps and junk food in the last week or too instead of the fruit and veg I had been eating.

Guess it is the SAD starting to kick in once again. Also noticed feeling more depressed when I awake in the mornings - ugh! Here we go again!

I have just discovered Haribo Lite fruit sweets. They are in a 120g bag and are little jelly gums which have no fat, half sugar and are about 200cal for the whole bag.

I know what I will be nibbling on (when I'm not nibbling on my carrots and lettuce etc!!)

It's dangerous for me to have soft tortilla shells, bread or cereal in the house. Especially this time of year. Luckily, though, it's easy enough to throw together a smoothie with fat-free yogurt.

At least that's the plan.

Back again like the preverbial bad penny!
I can totally relate to what has been said.
I normally eat quite clean but then september comes and gradually I find my pack lunches filling the kitchen pedal bin and greggs packets filling the van. Porridge has been replaced by crunchy nut cornflakes and the house is slowly falling apart....ahr the changing seasons what a splendid time of year!
To top things off there's the added bonus of knowing that most people will think you're a weak minded self obssesed hypochondriac if you pluck up the courage to mention S.A.D.
Welcome one and all to autumn- the slippery slope.
Regards OBE

I have been really good and lost about 26lbs over the last 3 months. Have hit this week and can't stop eating rubbish. I am getting a bit frustrated as I don't want to put this weight back on. I hate this bloody illness. Yesterday I had a sausage roll, chocolate biscuit, crisps and bread. Not had any of these things for at least 3 months. Arrrrrgggggghhhhhhhh

Suave, if I've put a smile on your face then that's worth more than any chocolate biscuit

Never really thought about it till I saw this thread but for the past two weeks I've been pigging out on chocolate in the evenings-something I won't even look at during the summer.

I go off milk chocolate and start eating dark chocolate, Then i go into milk shake mode. (its the same every year i am rather boring)
then its cheese and onion crisps and mint tea.
I go off coffee and milk chocolate.
though i do have a change about now, at this moment in time i am into frazzles and boiled sweets. last year it was ice cream and peaches and the year before i like pickled onions sliced in bread.

my familys glad i am not in the pickled onion mood.

I've started eating loads of chocolate for about a week now and started feeling like i wish i was dead too. i've tried all the light therapys going but no good for me. am on 200mcg sertraline. keeps me going through the summer but still very difficult to get through the winter. my closest friends are going to newzealand for a month this winter so it will be much worse this year. i'm so tired but sleep is elusive. i've joined a gym and threw up during my first workout. guess i over did it. got a puppy 2 weeks ago to keep my company when my boys are in school/bed. she is a lovely dog and i think she will help.
um sorry for the long message.
