Hi there

Well ive been suffering SAD now for a few years , I don't know when it started excactly but I think it may have somethin to do with the fact I used to work on a cruise ship for 4 years , going to exotic places , carribean , hawaii, etc , alaska and canada too ,

My probs started roughly when I returned from the ships to get a proper job ! , at a guess im sure it was then my problams started .

Its now september and im sure Im having the first glimps of lethargy and feeling "different" , not sure quite what to do at the mo , should I get my light box out?(usually it means SAD is imprinted on my mind when I get the light box out) psychological I know , Im on anti depressants all year round at the mo , I take a low dose during the spring /summer and then september onwards I go up to my maxiumum dose to try prevent my SAD returning ,.

The only thing that will be interesting this year is that I am taking regular exercise , running etc , and relaxing in the pool / jaccuzi , so that will be interesting to see if it helps !

How is everyone else doing at the moment ????? is anyone starting to feel "different" and recognising that SAD may be lurking around the corner??

Also what location is everyone at? Im in Leamington Spa , Warwickshire

Take care , let me know

Marky Mark :D

Hi Mark,
It is definately lurking! Last week i thought it was here for good but with the sun out at the mo, it has gone and hidden again.
I too am on antidepressants all year which get increased in September.Did try to come off them in the Summer - but it didn't work.
My light box is out and on for an hour every morning and although this does feel like i am giving into it - i know it is the right thing to do.
Am not to far from you- just outside Coventry.

I cut down in the spring/summer , but tried to go on the absolute lowest dose, it made me all dizzy and felt weird? so I upped it again and all was well.
I don't like taking them but I know I have to to help me through the autumn/winter :)

So where abouts do you live near Coventry? what a small world , I thought I was the only SAD sufferer in Warwickshire ! (don't tell me your West Mids  )

I really should get my light box out soon , Im a bugger for leaving it too late !

My box is 10000 lux too!
Must be nice to be able to be out and about especially on nice bright days in the Winter.Although on really bad days, i have been known to keep it on all day!
It is my birthday next week :D But i will be 35
Excercise is supposed to really help - isn't it?
Swimming is my thing - but i do struggle to go when it is cold and dark.

love

Hi everyone

It's been a while since I posted but just wanted to say that I too have started with the lightbox for just 15 mins in the mornings as it is quite dingy when I get up.

So far so good I'm not on SJW or anything else. Finally got some energy which is great as I'm not anaemic anymore. Feel so happy about this that SAD hasn't really entered my mind yet.

I've also bought one of those qlink things. Found one on ebay and think it is helping me sleep. Need to give it a bit longer to be sure, the winter will be a good test!

My sympathies go out to all of you who are dreading winter and starting to feel low. I found going to evening classes helped last winter although I thought I wouldn't have the energy to go but I went with friends and really enjoyed it.

Take care everyone and be kind to yourselves.

Hi Everyone,

My lightbox has come out again too. I have absolutely no energy and craving carbohydrates. :( Been on anti-depressants for over 20 years. My mood is fine at the minute - it's the tiredness I find so hard to cope with. I need to sleep in the afternoons!!!! If I don't I'm so tired at night I just can't sleep. grrrrrrrrr Oh, and my concentration has all but vanished.

I'm from Northern Ireland.

Not feeling too bad, but feeling the onset of autumn/winter. I don't know how much this is psychosomatic, as the weather hasn't been toooooo bad recently.

Started my prophylactic dose of meds today, so hoping this will result in a better winter. My doc is fab and supportive.

Lamp started and I now have sunrise unit attached to bedside lamp. Am finding it quite good I think, though time will tell. I only got it late spring, so it will be interesting to see how I get on with it,

All the above with a therapeutic dose of chocolate biscuits and some nutrititional supplements!
