Hi folks,
I would be really interested to know if there is a chat room for S.A.D. sufferers as I think that there are times when keeping in contact with people who are going through the same experiences could really help. Although a few people I know are supportive, most just don't have any patience and it can be a very lonely existence at times.
Any ideas?

All the best,

Paul

Hello Paul:

I too would very much like to chat to other people who suffer from SAD. If you do receive any replies or, if you decide to form your own 'chat'room please do let me know. My GP is very supportive, but out of his depth. I have taken antidepressants during the winter for the last three years but this year I would very much like to do without drugs. They certainly work for a time but do have side effects

Hiya Paul,

Not aware of any chat forum, but would really like to hear of one if you find any. I use IRC for chatting to people with similar gaming interests to me, but never really used IRC for anything else. Maybe we could set something up.

Thanks for your reply to my other message. Seems like a few of us are finding this year caught us by suprise.

Take Care,

Karl

Hi - I know I am joining this thread a little late, but wanted to also add my support. Having spent my day at work surfing because I just can't be bothered today! I will also repeat what has been said if there is such a forum set up for us SADies (to use your pharse Susan) it would be great.
Oh well should do some work now I suppose - it is almost home time ;-)
Keep happy everyone - try to give yourself one special treat a day to look forward to. It dosen't have to cost anything, could just be a nice bubble bath, or 10 minutes on your own with a good book - these are things that have worked for me so hope can help for someone else.
Best wishes to you all - Paula :-)

Hi my name is Diane. I would like to join in a chatroom for Saddies as well. I have suffered for years with SAD but I am having a real battle to get anyone especially my GP to recognise that I have SAD and not just depression. When I do feel that I am getting somewhere I then hit a wall of ignorance.
I too, feel that keeping in contact with other sufferers is good idea as we are the only ones who really understand!!
Take care
Love
Diane

I too would like a chat room where I could speak to people who really understand how I am feeling, especially over the next few months.
This is the first winter I have had a computer and am 90% computer illiterate!.
To speak to others would msn messenger or similar be useful??..
Take Care, Lesley x

I would be very interested in a chat room, I have only just discovered that I have SAD, and that I am not going totally mad. I haven't been able to work, and like others have spend many months on various anti depressants wondering why I wasn't getting better, until one day I wake up and it all seems to have lifted. I say sorry to my family and friends and give back what I have draining out of them for the last 4 or 5 months. I would very much like to hear from other people, I think sharing would make it easier, as I like others feel very alone and slighly insane.

Hi,

Well it looks like there isn't a SAD internet chat group anywhere.

I use IRC quite a bit, but normally only to chat with PC gamers.

I am happy to try setting up an IRC channel if anyone is interested? There are plenty of free IRC programs out there such as mIRC BesIRC and so on.

If there is interested in giving it a go I'll set a trial up. It's likely to cost me a few quid to get a Unix shell account and bouncer - excuse the techno babble - but it makes the chat group permanent.

Anyway, even if only one person responds, I'll give it a go :-)

Kind Regards,

Karl

I think a chat room is a great idea - like others have said, the people around us can try and be sympathetic but can't possibly understand. As a person who is known for being cheerful bouyant and positive for 9 months of the year, I think my loved ones are always taken by surprise when I transform into a miserable hag every October!! This part of winter is always the worst for me - after the shortest day I start getting better. According to Professor Chris Thompson I'm a bit of a freak in that respect - anyone else the same?
Cheers
Stef

a chat room will be really helpfull. i dont know what to do at times, and me m8s dont seem to understand the various moods can disappea in an instant. I stopped seeing my psch when i was 12. ive had this all my life. im a bit a freak in that nature, as not many people has SAD from the very start. just to let everyone know, it does not get any easier. you get used to it, but it does not get any easier, through out the years it gets harder && harder, but summer makes it all worth while =] can someone plz make us a chatroom. it will be soo nice to talk to someone who is going through the same.

We used to have a chat room here on the Lumie site (as well as this forum) but it wasn't used that much.

When I asked last year if it was worth having there wasn't much feedback so it was scrapped.
