In the winter newsletter from SADAssociation, there was an item on their notice-board from The Institute of Psychiatry (King's College London) asking SADA members if they would be prepared to take part in a study on depression.

King's College contacted me this afternoon as they need more volunteers, asking me to put a post on the Forum. This is a really important study on a subject close to all our hearts, any more volunteers…..?

"King's College would like to hear from anyone of Caucasian ethnic
origin, over 18 years of age, who has suffered from depression
(including SAD) and who has a brother or sister who has also suffered
from depression. It would involve being interviewed at your convenience
about health, symptoms, life events and giving a small blood sample.

We would also like to hear from anyone who has suffered from Bipolar
disorder for a separate study which would involve a similar interview
process, again at your convenience

Anyone who does not have a depressed sibling, and has never experienced
mania can still help by getting in touch with us to take part in our
survey research into depression and anxiety (the Radiant project)."

For more information or to volunteer for the study entitled “Radiant Project” please contact:
Ailbhe Burke on: a.burke@iop.kcl.ac.uk
Or FREEPHONE: 0800 542 4940
Or her direct line: 0207 848 5255
… mentioning this Forum on OutsideIn’s Website.

Thanks for that Julie!

I have a questionnaire coming my way already.

I'm only too happy to help in anything like this, especially if there maybe a better understanding at the end of it!!! :D :D :D :D :D

Hi Donna ~ was really pleased to see your post, I didn't actually know if anyone would post, thought they might all end up just ringing King's if they are interested. So, I was especially glad to see your reply!

Yes, it can only be good - every effort helps towards finding solutions to this big depression trap, everyone on the Forum has brushed with it to a greater or lesser extent. The Radiant Project might also help with the general awareness of those who don't suffer too - that would be a bonus for the rest of us! It's so hard living with a condition that others cannot see let alone understand.

All the best, and I'm so glad that you went for it, well done as everything is such an effort at this time of year. Julie

Got my questionnaire today!

May call for another one because I know of someone who suffers with depression, (not SAD), who is willing to take part.

I'm new to this forum but not, unfortunately, to SAD. I've e-mailed to take part in the research and am waiting to see what happens. Anything to further peoples understanding of it.

Donna - Do you live in Cambridge itself? I live not too far from there during the holidays (when I am not at uni). Where abouts are you?
