I've just started using a light box. I have also started taking 5-HTP. Has anyone else tried this combination before?

Thankyou.

Hi,

I use lightbox and St Johns. But I'm always keen to learn more. For me to understand my condition and the alternative therapies helps my overall outlook. So, whats is 5-HTP? Any chance of a web link or something?

Thanks,

Karl

Hi All,

I am thinking of getting a light box, and was about to read the info from the forum when I noticed the mentioning of the 5-htp.

I use 5-htp to help me sleep during the day when I am on night shift. From what I have read on various sites 5htp triggers the brain to produce something similar to serotonin and the brain thinks it is nighttime as a result of this action. I also have a dawn simulation clock which has helped a bit with my SAD symptons. Funnily enough I had forgotton about it for nearly a year and yet could not think why I was so tired all the time and not wanting to do anything or go anywhere. Over the xmas period when I had a lot of time off work I was easily sleeping over 12 hours a day and still tired. Has anyone tried the new Philips Bright Light Energy yet. It looks good but is very expensive at nearly £200.
