I like the idea of the light alarm clock and was thinking of trying one of these first before getting a light box.

Has anyone used one of these and how did it compare to a lightbox.

I need most help early in the dark mornings as it takes me half an hour just to get out of bed.

Hi,
I have been using a light alarm for 2 years now, it has made getting up in the morning more pleasant and I wouldn't be without it now, however I think the effect is only psychological, it doesn't actually treat the symptoms of sad.
Hope this helps
Racheal.

Hi Lisa,

I have used a lightbox the past couple of years, it has been a big help. This winter my husband got me a Light Alarm Clock for Christmas & that has also been a great help.

It wakes us up fairly gently, then I do an hour withthe lightbox. Followed by another hour as the daylight goes in the afternoons. I'm beginning to cut down now. This year I've also been taking Hypericum tablets, I think they help too. I don't like to take AntiDepressants, unless I'm REALLY SAD. After all, I can have a cotton-wool stuffed head with the SAD just as easily and my digestive system still works!

This winter has been a really good one for me - big improvement on last year. It's only in the past 2 weeks or so I've been feeling a little under par - probably due to a busy week followed by a cold which interrupts my sleep. Good thing it's the Easter Hols so I can catch up.

Like I said, I've found the Alarm clock helpful - start saving now or get it as a present (it ain't cheap). Also start saving for & investing in some Low Energy, high intensity lightbulbs. I've a 100watt equivalent (or is it more?) in the living room and that's been helpful too. Not to mention cheaper to run than ordinary bulbs! Ecozone have 60w and 100w equivalents for which they make great claims though you may find them expensively elsewhere.

Hang in there, what passes for summer over here is on it's way. Sharon

Thanks for your replies.

I have just managed to get the programmable alarm clock from John Lewis. I think I need to move it from my beside cabinet as it seems to be behind my head.

I am going to try St John's Wort too as I do not want to take anti-d's unless absolutely necessary.

BTW although we've had a few bright spells this weekend I haven't felt particularly positive. Do other sufferers find that it takes several days of bright sunshine to feel better.??

Yes I find that it takes a while to feel better, usually about 2 weeks.

Good Luck
Racheal
