Does anyone else have the comprehension of a gnat when they are in an episode?

I feel like a flaming moron and it's so embarrassing because other people just think that you are scatty or stupid.

Today, I've lost my contraceptive pill's new packet so I don't have it and the doctor's surgery have been zero help  They kept saying you have two months worth
I know I probably do but I can't find it and trying is highly stressing me out.

I just want to cry today

Hi Gemmzie, yes I am very scatty at the moment. I can't concentrate and lose things all the time.

I have been there with the unhelpful doctors surgery, in fact I think once I did cry in the surgery because they were being so unhelpful and I think it was my time of the month too, and I just ran out in tears after yelling 'oh for god's sake' or something like that. Eeek, the thought of it embarrasses me slightly

Anyway, just thought i'd reply and say, yep, know all about memory and feeling upset and frustrated. Its gloomy here today, white sky with cloud yuk.

Noticed you are in Cornwall, what's the weather like there today.

My other half and I have talked about moving to Cornwall - we might do next year.

I lost my open university assignment earlier this week...it was on top of the laptop, under the sofa. I was so worried about it that I had to take the afternoon off work (well, worked from home) so I could get home in time to find it, finish it, and post it off before the deadline!

Also, I've noticed that my general recollection is quite poor - I'm normally exceptionally on the ball with what's going on and very organised - it just isn't happening at the moment!

My boyfriend noticed last night that sometimes I think he's said something when he hasn't, and don't always hear him when he has! Not sure if that's SAD or selective deafness ;)

Thanks for replying sonnyjim.

Yes I am, probably the best part of the country to be in. I enjoy the sunny winter days walking on the beach even if it's cold it somehow doesn't seem so wintery. Reflections from the Sea I guess.

Today was lovely this morning and then peed it down from lunchtime.

megj, I'm a student too, I can't even finish my coursework, it's already 10 days overdue  I feel like such an idiot.
I do that too, think I've said something but only thought it, can't tell the difference. And am usually mega organised too, I'm a walking phonebook/calender/social secretary all summer!

To be honest, I'm glad I'm not a full-time student. It's too easy to switch off from studying...having to go to work every day kind of forces you into doing something each day. Not sure how well this OU course is going to go, having to do it in my own time - need to find a bit of extra motivation I guess (and not forget when the deadlines are).

I hope you've got a mentor/tutor at uni you can talk to about what's going on with you at the moment. They're normally great at dealing with stuff like that.

Hi Megj and Gemmzie, do either of you do this, lock the front door get in the car, and then get out of the car to check that the front door is locked, because you have already forgotten that you just locked it? Could be something to do with having children and being distracted when Im trying to get them all in the car, but sometimes I check and I haven't locked it!

Yes! I did that last night

Plus, I'm totally paranoid about leaving my hair straightners on so I now unplug them and put them on the other side of my bedroom to make extra sure

I know Piglet isn't it wonderful to know you are not the only one eh! We should start a thread so that everyone can list their daily 'forgetful' things, it would proably be quite funny. I think I said it somewhere else on here, there has to be some bonus to having this dam illness, so if we can't see the funny side then I don't know what, although I find these things are funnier on reflection, and dam annoying at the time!

I agree Piglet

And I think the same, if we can't reflect and laugh sometimes then we'd probably crack

I have been so forgetful lately!!
I was thinking about posting the same topic for the past week (I must have forgot :) !)
But really it can be so fusturating! I lost my cell phone on the train and it was been such a pain to try to replace it. I even got insurance on it because I know how I can get but the process to get it replaced (includes several long forms and police report) is too much for me to deal with.
I looked all over for my keys today and FINALLY found them....in my front door!! and not on the inside either, so anyone could have come in last night. hmmm. and it made me late for work. Acutally that and the fact that I CANNOT get out of bed in the morning!
Also, since I have finally found people to relate to ... Have you noticed this?
Where you find yourself just sitting there and staring off into space and doing nothing? Like everything is taking A LOT longer than normal?
Sometimes I realize I just sit in my car before getting out and have been staring into space for minutes. Not to be crass but like on the toilet too...just spacing out. It just feels fusturating sometimes like I am so slow and unproductive or just strange. This one my be way off from anyone but I thought I would throw it out there.
I am so glad I found this site BTW.

Hi Chicago, welcome aboard :)

I space out too, especially when I'm not doing anything too taxing like watching TV.

I've watched several episodes of my favourite shows lately and can't remember what happened through spacing out

Hi Chicago, I can relate to that. I'm turning into a real space cadet lately. This week particularly I've been walking around in my own little world. It's a bit embarrassing when my workmates keep walking up to me to see if I'm alright, because I've been staring at the same bookshelf for five minutes! Or sometimes when I'm asked a question, it takes much longer than usual for me to comprehend what they person is saying, like my brain is slowing down. A customer asked me the other day what part of Ireland I was from, and I just looked at her with a dazed expression! I must come across as a right dumbass!

I've been having a lot of difficulty with remembering what I've read.....just seconds after I read it, even when the subject really, really interests me! Does anyone else have this problem?

Posted by Seasonally Apathetic & Disillusioned, 23:11 17 November 2006

Yes I do MegS.

I don't read fiction, because I literally lose the plot. Even with non-fiction I keep flicking backwards and forwards, re-reading the same sentences, paragraphs etcetera, just to try to make sense of it all. It is a painfully slow process to be productive when either reading or writing at this time of year.

I can relate to that!! It seems to take me ages to hear what someones saying, I notice that theyre expecting me to say something & then I'll finally realise what theyve said & answer - does not go down well in my daily meetings with my really strict boss sho expects you to know the answer to anything within a second!!!
And sitting in a daze - all the time!!! I really am struggling to get through my work because of it & even in the house, I'll just sit & stare at nothing for ages, almost in a trance!!
So glad I found this forum - it's so good to know Im not the only one like this - half the stuff I hadnt even realised I only did in winter, its only know Im hearing about other peoples stories, my stuffs starting to make more sense - not sure if this sentence does tho!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem. It helps to know you're not alone! I've about given up on reading books and articles in magazines, but I'd really like to better comprehend what I'm reading online. This mental fog seems to get worse in the evenings. Today the sun shone for all of 5 minutes. I feel like I just want to go to sleep and wake up in April!

Definition of irony: I read the thread title and thought 'oh my memory is terrible right now, I should post on that thread'....only to find I did already!

Good job I can still laugh at myself

I've been finding reading harder too recently, not good considering I'm doing some voluntary work that means I have to read and summarise some massive strategy documents by this Friday and I have another assignment due on Dec 13th :?

I s'pose the trick is when things like memory problems happen is not to be too hard on ourselves no matter what other people may think,
easier said than done but who are other people to judge us?

I know what you mean MegS, I can read an entire page of a book, and then realize that I didn't actually take anything it...it's like I just looked at the words and didn't actually read anything, and I end up having to reread the entire page again.

I space out as well, especially in the morning before I use my lightbox. First thing I do in the morning is take a shower, and I normally end up just standing there in the shower staring off into space for at least 5 minutes, until I realize I've been in there for a while now and haven't done a single thing. It's annoying, and wastes precious lightbox time!

Re: the locks thing - my worst point is when I've locked the door, I go back to check it, find it's locked, check it again in case I made a mistake, forgot or imagined that I had already checked it and have to check it again in case that really did happen ...

Minnie,
I find it helps me if I recite aloud my mantra, "Stove, locks, (and anything else)." over and over as I make my way to my car. It keeps my mind in the present and knowing that I have indeed checked everything right now and am not just remembering doing it in the past!

I TOO CAN RELATE TO THOSE OF US WHO HAVE A HARD TIME KEEPING OUR THOUGHTS STRAIGHT AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR. I CAN READ A SENTENCE 5 OF 6 TIMES AND STILL NOT BE ABLE TO RETAIN ANYTHING THAT I JUST READ. SAME GOES WHEN I'M WATCHING TV. I SIT THERE STARING AT THE TUBE, I SEE THINGS MOVING BUT DON'T EVEN ASK ME WHAT WAS SAID. RIGHT NOW WE ARE ON XMAS BREAK FROM SCHOOL, BUT I KNOW WHEN I GO BACK I HAVE TO BE EXTRA CAREFUL TO WRITE DOWN ANY INFO GIVEN BY THE INSTRUCTOR BECAUSE I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT INSTRUCTIONS WERE GIVEN HALF THE TIME. FEEL VERY EMPTY HEADED AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, BUT WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING I AM A REGULAR RAM OF MEMORY.

DON'T GET TOO DISCOURAGED, JUST ACCEPT THAT IT'S JUST THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE.
