For many years, I have been trying to understand why I am the way I am.

I have experienced depression, acute and chronic stress, SAD, and even deep grief to name but a few.

I have also lived in different parts of the world and met with various peoples/cultures/religions/lifestyles.

Now I know what I am about to say may sound a little strange, maybe even crazy (it did to me), but I believe myself to be a reasonably intelligent and articulate individual and what I have to say has taken years of introspection for me to be able to talk about it:

We sufferers of SAD (or depression or grief, or maybe of any life-crisis), may have something in common and I need to know if ANYONE out there has had the same thoughts.....please read on......

I beleive there is a connection inside us that ultmately knows who we really are and what/how we want to be. Our lives are so full of man-made values that this connection remains for the most part ignored, or only alluded to in religious/spiritual circles.

When for any reason, such as a life-crisis, our values are shattered, this connection seems to be more apparent.

It also seems to be the same feeling as being without the light of summer, as on a grey day, when we sense this connection's absence.

What I think I have discovered is that (and I'm speaking here as a fellow SAD sufferer) we all have the natural ability to make this connection.

It is a connection with light as a real electro-magnetic energy source and our relationship to it as normal people living a life.

Not in some mystical way, but a true, real and physical connection, in scientific terms.

I also discovered that my bouts of depression were based on my yearning for this connection/meaning, though I didn't know it at the time.

Bottom line of what I am trying to say here (and to save space), I suspect I may have uncovered a real link but I'm not sure if it's just me or if anyone else has a sense for this....that we sufferers are actually the most advanced/sensitive form of the human species...the start of our next evolution...that SAD is a very real ailment but with the wrong interpretation of the meaning of it's symptoms...that the true meaning is that we have a direct affinity to this scientific/spiritual connection (not the mystic stuff) and that we KNOW when it's missing.....Light, that is, in all it's manifestations.

When we are connected, the overwhelming sense of elation/happiness/joy (call it what you will) is amazing....AND...it is the same feeling as when you are REALLY glad to see someone or be in someone's company (Friend/lover/relation/collegue etc)....Full of energy and goodwill and service.

If this is striking a chord with you, PLEASE let me know, and I will be happy to continue the discussion on this message board. If you think it's a pile of crock, again, let me know and I will not waste your time or any of the other members').

I just need to get a sense of whether or not we have been missing an important point here in our lives - a sanity check for myself, if you will, but that may grow into an important discovery which, if true/real, could potentially change all our lives in this forum?

Look forward to your responses.

Brightest wishes,
BENEDETTO LUCIO BARLABA

We have had an exceptionally bright early spring for west yorkshire and I am wondering if you are feeling a bit high or manic? I know this affects me too.

My response to your thoughts were not meant as a snide put down. I don't feel the same as you obviously and the first thing that came to mind was my own previous grandiose ideas and plans that have affected me. I do genuinely get high in early spring and know other sufferers who get the same symptoms, sometimes this can affect judgement and put us in precarious situations. It was just a suggestion to consider!

wherever you are....... you are never further than ten feet from a rat!

I have been thinking about your post and it seems that you might think that people are unreceptive to your ideas because the only reply you had was from Siddy and Siddy appeared to make light (pun intended) of your ideas.

I think that perhaps people have not replied because although your enthusiasm and compassion are strongly evident in your post they drown out your intended meaning; it is difficult to find the precise point of your post.

Sometimes we are so excited by an idea that we get carried away and forget that other people may not be able to keep up- because we are running so fast on the adrenalin of excitement.

I am not sure that I understood it completely. I'm not sure that we are higher or more spiritual being but rather that we have to strip the complications that life has veneered onto it and realise the simple things, that light is important for life- especially SAD folk.

Don't be disheartened, ideas are fragile and you must be prepared to defend them for them to become strong enough to stand up in the big wide world.

scientist have recently discovered that people with sad have a stronger sense of smell ( i think when sad is lifted). And also at least once a month I can predict something that is going to happen before it does either from a dream or just thoughts and this ultra sensesitive body might need light to help it realize the time of day??
