Well today, I was sacked from Waitrose as predicted. This is a memorable day since it is the first time that I haven't just walked out of a job, because of my SAD symptoms, never to return. In fact, it is the only job that I have had during and since my discovery that SAD is the cause of my woe; and the first time that I have ever been sacked too. I knew it was inevitable, but I still feel kicked in the teeth. The worst part was that they had to put me down as ‘dismissed for unreliability’ – how insulting! Now paranoia is starting to set in - everyone who is supposed to be helping me seems to be either adding to my woe, or just being obstructive. I guess that it is time to see how the benefits system responds to SAD then.

What are your experiences of trying to work with SAD?

Hi,

I am self employed so im lucky I can work when i like... but i dont know how ppl cope with a 9 - 5 life as i couldnt..

Why dont you try a bar job.... I did this when i was having a rough time as it gets you out and meeting ppl...?

I dont know how old you are but if you can hack it... i did like it and it helped....

Ive written a big reply somewhere already to you. How old are you? I read what you wrote on your profile too.... winter sucks but you can change and get better from bad shit.. it does take time and having SAD dont help.

Any way as for waitrose.... I got sacked one christmas (when I did work for someone else) and it does feel crappy... but your free to find something more fun.... your boss was probably as t***Er anyways!

Love big G

Hi there,
Sorry to hear you'v lost your job. Don't take to heart their comment about you being " dismissed for unreliability". Lots of personnel forms have a selected list of reasons for dismissal to choose from, i.e theft, deviation from partnership policy, etc.etc.
It's a shame some management and personnel don't use their initiative and over ride this and make a personnel comment in extenuating (sorry if I spelt that wrong but I think you know what I mean) circumstances.
Keep your chin up :) :)

Thanks people.

I just think that ‘unreliable’ is an evil way of trying to give themselves a better image for, however legally, sacking an ill/disabled person – despite feeling terrible, I was one of the most reliable, but admittedly slow, workers that they had. Remember, Waitrose is a partnership too – what hope is there in the even more corporate world, which the majority of employers inhabit?

I am still interested to hear your stories of how flexible your employers have been with helping you to cope with SAD. Have you not told them, for fear of their response? How have the benefits agency (It has been a while, and I don’t know their current name yet.) dealt with you when you have been unemployed because of SAD?

Big G, I thought Scrooge was supposed to relent and change his evil ways on Christmas Day? Bar work? I'd die from alcohol therapy.
