Oh dear Arken ~ I could actually cry for you, gosh how I understand " :( " along with your question 'why can't I be normal' .... it is a horrible horrible place to be, and I am soooo sorry that that is where you are finding yourself. Between a rock and a hard place...

Be comforted, count yourself as truly hugged, April is coming and it will bring you relief from your SAD. It is especially hard for you as it is not stand-alone SAD which causes all your grief... but April will loosen those shackles for you, in that without SAD you will get your fight back to confront your ogres, put up a battle and win.

I don't live in London, otherwise I would be tempted to call round (such as I am at present) to attempt to alleviate some of the agony. What else can be written to help.... wish I knew.....'cos I would say it for you....

I think I shall get a prayer flag from oldhippy, and I will put your name on it...

Big e-hug, Julie

Hi Arken

Since I started refering to myself as "The Loonie" as with SAD, people see you as something not quite right up there in the roof department, Now using this term I laugh at them that see SAD as something so mentally unstable.

But then I released I am very normal I am beating something they do bnot have to cope with, I know SAD is for Winter and as Julie says April is comming very soon and the sun and warm weather. Hey whatever live has thrown at yer, you are here and alive and beat SAD year after year.

You may feel like death warmed up slightly, but beleave me in 4 weeks time you will look back and see it was only a passing time in space.

Imagine that safe place we all go to in times of stress, close your eyes and go to that place, enjoy the time there, then let all stress leave your mind :D

Dear Arken,

I have asked myself this same question in the past.

From my late teens to mid-twenties I experienced chronic depression, self-harmed and obsessed about and attempted suicide (once) - in addition to living with SAD, although I did not know about SAD until 3-4 years ago.

Now at 32 I take medication for the depression, and will probably have to for the rest of my life. Through counselling I was able to understand and end the self-harm and for the past three years I have used a combo of lightbox and medication to manage the SAD.

I wonder now, what is normal?
Through having gone through this journey I can honestly say that I have a greater awareness of my internal world and have probably developed a deeper empathy and compassion for others.

My journey has been a painful one but I have survived as I am sure you can and will.

Be gentle with yourself and do not be afraid to reach out for support. Wishing you peace and strength Arken.
