A bit of a straw poll - what month of the year is worst for you?

For me it's always been March - but that was before I realised what was going on with SAD!

This is only my second year of "enlightenment" and I wonder whether March will be better this year as I now know that there is light at the end of the tunnel (apols for dreadful puns!).

What about you??

Yep, recon it's Dec and Jan but weather can obviously change that to a "winter flush"

January and February always seem to be my worst months, after which things start looking up again. I don't think it helps that my birthday is on December 31st... I seem to hit rock bottom when I realise that another year has passed and I'm still not where I thought I would be. Saying that, I'm a bit more prepared for it this year (if you can call it that), so I'm hoping things won't get as bad as they have other years. :)

It seems to have hit me at the 20-something of October, half term break in the past. The break in routine and clock change does it, I think.

Worst is probably January/February when it seems like Winter will never end

January is by far my worst month. December has Christmas to cheer it up, and by February I'm thinking I've nearly made it through another winter.

I hate January so much that if I had a choice, I'd get rid of it entirely and just skip from the end of December to Febuary 1st, even if it meant my life being one twelfth shorter from having only 11 months in a year! I just feel that my quality of life in January is so bad that it's just a question of surviving it, rather than having anything resembling a life.

Does anyone else feel as bad as that about their worst month?

What a way to start off a new year, huh?

Late January and February. Hands down.

By March, the weather around here seems to take a turn for the somewhat better...there's always that one random day where it gets up to 60 degrees and it once again dawns on me that eventually this will be over...but other than that March isn't all that great either. Half-way through April I will suddenly realize I feel *good*...(Last year it was April 14th, to be precise. Hehe...I keep track of how I feel and give myself a score every day, if I can remember to! I'm trying to create data for an entire year, and I'll be done on February 19th. I can promise I won't be ending on a good note unless something amazing happens.

I am with Siddy - by February I am feeling REALLY REALLY REALLY fed-up and am surfing the net researching Teaching English as a Foreign Language abroad.

By February I also am extremely anti-social and find it difficult to even participate in a forum like this :?

January. Definitely January, closely followed by February.

By March, I'm starting to look forward to Spring and thinking that I've made it.

I don't know, since the winters I've experienced in California have been so sporadic. But I remember that during the worst winter, two years ago, the end of March/beginning of April was horrible. The sun has even started coming out at that time.... but it just didn't have any effect on me after a long period of its absense. It took a while for me to truelly feel and believe that it's really spring, and I need not be down any longer.

Late November and December. Around the time work has to be handed in and you find out you can not handle the stress.

I dont suffer until November. I can handle December because i keep busy at work and there is Christmas. January is a lull.... and Febs is worse. I'm gonna try and get a cheap holiday come Febuary. March isnt so bad for me.... i start to get re-motivated.

In general the winter months are not great. The only cure, as we all know is sunlight. So the only thing i can do in the winter is survive. Do the things that i really love to do during this time.

All the best

December January really, but as Hadrian says, Sept/Oct has its down side as well. I certainly feel that.

Its hard to pick just one, but I suppose December would the very worst month, because, as well as being a dull month, there is the stress of Christmas, which seems to get to me every year.

January for me because by that time I feel like the winter's been going on for ever and it's never going to end! Though my worst day is the day in Sep/Oct when I realise that the symptoms have reappeared.

I'm with Hadrian. Sept/Oct. Starts with a worry that it will be a bad SAD year which if coupled with another 'trigger' it will then escalate. This year it was my other half going abroad to work over this autumn/winter leaving me to cope on my own.

January and February because Christmas is over and it's very hard to go back to work after the Christmas holiday, it feels like Spring is forever away. Roll on Spring!!!!!

I think I must be a bit odd, because im qoite pleased when Christmas has finished. Perhaps its because Spring is on its way, then I can think about coming off my tablets.

Definetly not odd Paulst! I can't wait til Christmas is over. By January, I'm looking forward to the spring. I found a website ages ago where you can print a calendar of the sunrise/sunset times for your location for different months http://www.sunrisesunset.com/. By the end of January we have more or less a whole hour extra of daylight in the UK in the evening!
