Posted by Chloe, 20:23 28 May 2010Having signed up to recieve Lumie info by e-mail, I recieved one saying I could try a Lumie clear for free. So of course I thought Ok...what's the catch? Turns out it is trialling the product, which sounds great to me. After getting in touch with the really friendly people I was put forward to start the trial. I recieved my Lumie by courier and off I go. Started the trial just over a week ago. Using it once a day for 15 minutes. I'll keep you posted of my progress and see how it works. Here's to clear skin!

Posted by Fizgiggly, 11:12 30 May 2010I am trialling too and started yesterday, how are you finding it?
I am sure my face is less red today!
Posted by Chloe, 18:13 4 June 2010Oh cool :) It's going well, haven't noticed any more spots coming up so thats a good sign so far!!

Posted by Chloe, 18:24 4 June 2010Update Number 2!
I have been using my Lumie Clear everyday and as said above, I'm not noticing and new spots coming up so i'm treating that as a good sign so far! Finding the product really easy to use and again still using it for 15 minutes everyday. It has a handy timer that automatically switches it off after 15 minutes so no need to worry about timing how long you've had it on for. Although if you're not using it directly on the skin you have to increase the amount of time it's used for to get the same effect. I have had antibiotics for skin treatment in the past although you cannot take them very regularly, so the Lumie Clear would be a great solution to this in my opinion! Chloe
Posted by Fizgiggly, 15:35 5 June 2010End of week one for me and I am sure my skin is less red, firmer and a nasty cystic area has definitely shrunk. I am mainly using the lumie directly on my skin and agree the timer is handy (I fell asleep doing it one night this week!)
Also like Chloe, no new spots.... Looking good....
Posted by Chloe, 15:48 24 June 2010Hi again!
I have missed out on a week for updating how I’m getting on as I was unwell. I have therefore doubled up on my treatment this week. Instead of using my Lumie Clear directly on the affected area for 15 minutes, I have done so for 30 to catch up with the week I missed out on. This is really good to know as should you miss a day etc. it’s easy to catch up with yourself. Still enjoying using the Clear as I’ve said many times it’s easy to use. The amounts of spots that I am seeing are definitely reducing with the use of the light therapy which is great and it’s also reducing redness of the area. So still feeling it’s going well so I have high hopes for the end results! Chloe
Posted by Leeds Lass, 17:08 26 June 2010Hi Chloe I too am trialing the Lumie Clear Device I am coming up to the 6th week and have had really good results so far. I have missed a days treatment this week and I read your post about doubling up the treatment time if you miss a day. Is that definately right as I though I had read somewhere that using the Lumie Clear for any more than 15 mins at a time close/next to one affected area would have no added benefit than the normal 15 mins.

Posted by Chloe, 16:05 1 July 2010Hi,
I was advised by the lady I contacted for the Lumie trial to double up on treatments or extend my treatment by an extra week at the end. I checked the instructions too and didn't see anything about not using it more than 15 mins. So to be honest i'm not too sure!
Posted by Chloe, 16:11 1 July 2010Week 5 update…
Doesn’t seem long since I last blogged! I’m getting on really well with the trial and still don’t have any more spots coming up. The ones I do have seem to be reducing and the redness, again, is also reducing. My skin on the area where I am using the light therapy is generally looking better. Really pleased I signed up to do the trial and almost half way trough now. I have a feeling the results are going to be good based on the progress I’ve made so far! Chloe
Posted by jackie@torvean86.freeserve.co.uk, 18:13 4 July 2010mother of two teenage kids here.
Kids have been using the lumie clear now for about 2 weeks. i have to say at the moment scott isn't showing any great change but it's really early days yet. he tends to use it when he is watching tv. Kerry has been using her whilst watching TV on her computer. she just leans it against her face like she was using the telephone. we are going to tenerife for a couple of weeks and will be taking the lumie clear with us but i am not sure what kind of effect it will have as the kids will be getting a very large dose of real sunshine. I'll let you know how they get on when i get back. JJ
Posted by Leeds Lass, 20:19 4 July 2010Hi Jackie I am half way through the Lumie Trial and I took my device on holiday to Jamaica with me on weeks 3-4 so that I could continue with my treatment . Ive had really good results so far I do think the sun also benefited my acne but Ive now been nack from holiday for 2 weeks and still havent had a mad break out
| |
Posted by Chloe, 16:13 8 July 2010I agree Jackie! Keep going with it and i'm sure you'll start seeing some results soon!

Posted by Chloe, 16:23 8 July 2010Another week has gone by already so it’s time to keep you updated again.
I am now on my 6th week of using the Lumie Clear, so I’m half way through the treatment now. Using it is still proving to be beneficial as like the previous few weeks, no new spots and no redness. Really glad I have been able to participate in the trial and let everyone know how it’s going. I think it’s really important to read other peoples reviews on a product before buying it, and enjoying reading how other people are getting on with the trial. I’m a bridesmaid in 10weeks time; hopefully my skin should be looking as good as new as I will have just finished the treatment shortly before then! Chloe
Posted by Leeds Lass, 10:13 11 July 2010Hi all I am now coming up to my 8th week of treatment. I really cannot believe the difference in my skin
Had absolutely no new spots at all this week (Which when you've lived with getting masses every week for about the last 20 year is amazing). My partner was really skeptical when I told him about Lumie and first starting using it, he really did not think it would work. He is so used to me trying so many different things for my skin, over the years that have little or no impact but I am so so glad I have tried the Lumie Clear and that it is working.
Posted by Chloe, 14:39 15 July 2010You're a week ahead of me and i'm glad you're seeing the effects too!
I’m on to my 7th week now and my skin is still changing for the better. The redness is staying away and I have the feeling that it’s going to stay that way with this treatment now. The same goes for the spots, no new ones appearing and the ones that are still there are reducing more as the weeks go on. Really looking forward to see how things are in the final weeks of the trial as they’ve been looking great up until now. I have a feeling I’m not going to be disappointed! Bring on week 12! Chloe
Posted by anguscat, 18:50 18 July 2010does anyone know if this therapy is safe to use long term as no one has mentioned that at all or if it will lead to dry skin, what clinical trials have been on it
| |
Posted by admin, 11:09 21 July 2010Hi there,
Here is an paragraph about safety that I've taken from our own file that summarises all the clinical research behind Lumie Clear. "The combination of blue and red narrowband light seems to be well tolerated. Side effects were reported 6 times in the Papageorgiou et al study and consisted of acne flaring, dryness, facial rashes and headaches. This was favourable in comparison to the other treatment groups (including the placebo group using white light) and was not statistically significant. 2 patients experienced transitory erythema in the Goldberg trial and no adverse effects were reported by Lee et al, demonstrating tolerability and safety users with darker skin." I'll see if I can dig out anything more on long-term use. admin
Posted by admin, 12:18 21 July 2010I've checked and there are no specific long-term studies. On the other hand, many people already use red light devices - to treat leg ulcers and acne - and have been doing so for years on a regular basis with only beneficial effects.
So there is no evidence to suggest that it could be harmful as long users stick to the recommended guidlines. Does that help?! admin
Posted by Chloe, 15:09 22 July 2010My trial is going so fast! Thought I was about to blog for week 7 but realised I’m already on week 8!
Everything’s still all good in my opinion. The Clear is definitely keeping the spots at bay and still no redness to report. Must admit I forgot to use the light one night this week, but it doesn’t seem to have made anything worse. I guess as I’ve been using the Clear for long enough that they weren’t going to all come back overnight! Well I hoped not, and they didn’t!!! Chloe
Posted by Chloe, 15:31 29 July 2010I’m up to week number 9 of the trial now and am really pleased. Any remaining spots that are being stubborn are decreasing more and more.
A little stuck with what else to report as I’ll probably be repeating what I’ve said about the Lumie Clear trial for the past few weeks, and that’s about the good results. I may as well though! Still using the light for 15minutes directly onto the skin each day and since around week 4 the redness of the skin and spots started to decrease, and no new spots were appearing. Week 12 is getting very close and I’m looking forward to seeing how everything is then Chloe
Posted by Leeds Lass, 16:10 8 August 2010I am now on week 11 of the 12 week trial and am really happy to report that everything is still going really well.
Only had a couple of spots on my forehead this week, no mad breakouts and the rest of my face is clear. Only negative that I can really think to report on the Lumie is that sometimes when Im using it I do get a slight headache. Nothing major and it could be that I always watch TV when I am having my treatment and I always have the goggles on. The goggles do seem to blur your vision slightly so maybe it is my eyes straining that gives me the headache. Will have to try using it without watching TV and see if it is any different
Posted by Leeds Lass, 13:51 14 August 2010Final week of my 12 week trial this week and I must admit I have had a hectic week and have missed 3 nights of Lumie treatment but as yet it doesnt seem to have had a detremental effect. Still only got my couple of forehead spots which seems to be pretty much the norm
Overall I am overjoyed I tried the Lumie my skin is so much clearer whereas before I never had any clear patches. I will continue to use Lumie even though the 12 week trial is up but will probably cut down to 3-4 sessions a week. Good luck to everyone else, hope you all get the same good results I have had so that we can all say goodby and good riddance to acne
Posted by Chloe, 14:46 19 August 2010Hi All,
Apologies for being M.I.A for the last few weeks. This is my final blog now! I haven’t used my Clear for the last few weeks and am definitely noticing the difference. I plan to continue using my light even now the trial has finished, even if it’s not everyday, maybe a few times a week to maintain the brilliant work it’s done. The time’s gone so quickly. I had no idea what to expect from the trial when I first started it and am so pleased with the results I’ve got from using the Lumie Clear. To backtrack, I used it for 15 minutes a day directly on to the skin and from about week 4 really started to notice the benefits of using it and have continued to do so each week. I’m really thrilled with the outcome and would recommend the light to anyone! Thanks to the people at Lumie for picking me to be on their trial team!!! I hope you don’t miss me blogging to much! Here’s to clear skin! Chloe x
Posted by emily-may, 13:04 8 November 2010I want to trial this! Dont want to pay the price if it doesnt work for me! Have tried soooo many products and really want something to work!

Posted by LS, 10:44 10 November 2010Hi Emily-May.
Unfortunately we aren't looking for any more partipants for a trial at the moment. All the best, Lumie Admin
Posted by E-gran, 17:03 12 April 2011little questions before purchasing...is there a recommended duration of treatment? do the benefits continue after stopping the treatment? how long do the benefits last on average?

Posted by Anne, 07:43 13 April 2011I read about red and blue Light Therapy for skin conditions and how it can help acne sufferers achieve healthier skin. Like Acne sufferers, my cavalier Fin’s skin was infected and inflamed following allergic reactions and immune system issues. Could Light Therapy help him? There was only one way to find out! We bought a Lumie Clear unit to use on Fin. Fin has taken to the Lumie Clear Light Therapy Unit well. He has to wear yellow goggles as a protection for his eyes but is relaxed about the whole thing, usually going to sleep in the chair.
Best of all he now is up with the larks, has started playing and enjoys going to training class. His fur has started to grow back and he is much improved. Thank you Lumie Clear.

The quickest treatment method is to use Clear right next to your skin so the light is most intense. Used like this, we recommend 15mins on each area you want to treat - you won't really get any extra benefit using it for longer. So, say you had acne on your forehead and both cheeks, then to treat all areas would take 45mins. As for how long to keep it up, it's difficult to say; research only looked at people using it every day for 12 weeks so there's nothing on what happened after that. From what our customers tell us, they tend to ease off a bit once their skin is better and start to skip a couple of days now and then, just going back to Clear if new spots are developing. FYI, we have a 30-day trial and you should know within that period whether it's for you or not. There are also some FAQs on the Clear page. Hope that helps. @Anne We know that pets love our bright lights but I think this is a first for Lumie Clear!
