Hello everyone!

Like a couple of others on here, I am about to start a new weekly blog to let you all know about my experience with a new product, Lumie Clear, a light therapy product and potential alternative to creams and prescriptions for treating mild-moderate acne (www.lumie.com).

I have just started trialing it and Im going to keep you updated as to how it goes, so that you can hopefully get some unbiased info as to whether it works -at RRP £149 its not cheap, but if it works, I think its 100% worth paying for lovely clear skin.

About me: Not to bore you, but so you know a bit about me; I am an avid fashion/ makeup junkie, and love trying new products. I do however have pretty bad skin. I am 25 and still do not go a day without some form of spots/ clusters on my face (I thought Id grow out of it- no such luck so far!). If I could change anything about myself it would be my skin- Id be totally happy to go makeup-less if only I had clear skin, but unfortunately I would never dare bare without makeup as my skin is currently. (Even my boyfriend of 4 years has never seen me sans cover up! Good effort huh?)

I've tried every lotion and potion going, so Im now desperate to find a solution to get to the point where I can go skin-naked...and thats where Lumie hopefully comes in!

Ive been offered the chance to trial it for 12 weeks (after which you should see 'significant improvement!).

Week 1 Results update:

Ive been using the Lumie light therapy for a week now for 15 minutes every evening. You have to use it for a minimum of 15 minutes a day (longer if you hold it further away from treatment area), and as my main problem is spot clusters round my chin, Ive been concentrating it here.

One thing I would say is that if you hold the device up close to treatment area to minimise the amount of time you need to treat it, the treatment area is relatively small, so you can only really target small areas at a time unless you increase treatment time and hold it further away.

Its completely painless (slightly warm which feels nice!), but you do have to wear bright yellow goggles which look kind of funny if you think the light might shine directly in your eyes.

Results so far? Well Im pretty sure Im not getting many (any?) new spots since ive started using it. The redness seems to be less too. I think its too early to judge so far (think you start to get noticeable results at 4 weeks), but Im really hopeful this might be a solution for my never ending battle with spots!

Hope this helps you guys out there suffering like me! I'll keep you posted!

Thanks!

Week 2 Results.

Hi guys,

As promised, my weekly installment of my progress with lumieclear as treatment for my acne.

Well Im sad to say I dont have too much to report this week.

Im still focusing on the chin/ lower cheek area as the treatment area, and I do think that on the whole I'm getting less new spots- although I had a horror emerge this week, really big and angry! I was a bit gutted as I was hoping that the 'monsters' might be a thing of the past with this treatment. However, I probably should confess I did miss 2 days this week....!!! I know, I know, I feel bad, not least because I think this treatment actually works, and me missing two days probably dosent help!! I wasnt at home though, and although the lamp is easily transportable I was staying with friends and didnt really think I would have the time/ place to use it- Im sure I could have, I just wasnt comfortable using it around others yet!!

The redness is less for definite though, which is cool. Its a non-messy, non drying, non-painful treatment too which is good, the only drawback Im finding is holding it to my face for at least 15mins a day (there is a stand, but shorter treatment time if you hold it right next to your skin), so I try to read/watch tv when im doing it!! I suppose I could use the stand on a table and just put my face right up to it, but I havent found the right height/ chair/ tv setup yet!!! So Im just holding it up to my face.

That all I have to report this week, but I promise to be more dilligent this week and Im hoping for sparkling results to update next time!

Have a good week,

Hi all,

Sorry for slight update delay, but im happy to let you know that having had an uninterupted week of using Lumie, my skin is much much less red, and looking quite a bit smoother.

I have actually fallen asleep with it on my face a couple of times this week (I tend to use it just before I go to sleep, therefore in bed. As I mentioed before, there is a stand, but I prefer to have it actually touching my face so I can use it for as short a time as possible). Its lovely and warm so its quite easy to fall asleep!

Still getting the odd new spot, but not nearly so many, and they are so not angry/ red looking as before I started the treatment.

Loving the results so far, def. worth the 15 minutes a day.

I really think that at the end of the 12 weeks I will see a vast differnece as it has certainly helped so far- fingers crossed for even better results to come!

Have a good week!

WEEK 4

Hey guys,

Week 4 update...and all positive so far!

So its recommended to use it for 12 weeks at least to see results but after 4 weeksof use I can definitely see improvement- my face is so much less red and inflammed, and Im getting way less new spots. I still have a few lingering, dont get me wrong, but im confident that they are gettinbg less and less.

I am finding you really do need to use it daily as missing a day or two does seem to slow things up, but im still using it right next to my skin for 15mins a day. I have used it for 30mins right up close when I can for an intense burst of treatment- I do it just before I go to sleep- and the next day it really seems to have reduced redness.

So all good to report so far - as I am always rushing around, staying at various places for work, my boyfriends etc, I do find it sometimes hard to fit it in- mainly as I feel a bit self conscious doing it in front of others, but im trying extra hard not to miss my treatments- its worth it for the results!!

See you next week!

Hi everyone,

Sorry for slight delay in posting, Ive been guilty of enjoying the lovely sunshine and avoiding being shut in with my computer!

So week 5 and Lumie is becoming pretty much routine for me to just use for 15mins just before I fall asleep. IT's pretty much sorted getting many new spots, I still get the odd one but they are not red and huge or angry, just little and go quickly. Its not had any negative effects on my skin either like drying/ reactions etc like you can get from creams.

I still try and give my skin an extra boost of therapy when I have time and use it up close for 30mins, and I find it does help and makes a difference the next day. I have also started using on my nose and cheeks now my chin is clearing up nicely.

So still progressing nicely!

Have a good week

Hi all,

Halfway through the 12 week trial period now- as you know Im now using Lumie on other areas on face now too, although they werent as bad as my chin was at the start, and they are steadily improving. The most significant change using lumie is reduced redness and inflammation.

I am 'topping up' the chin area that I started treating as a preventative measure, and although i get the odd outbreak its nothing like before. I guess now instead of the clusters of spots I had, I have more odd outbreaks. Yay! Maybe after 12 weeks Ill bee freeeeeee?! Heres hoping!

Im still loving the lovely warm feeling on your skin when you treat too, its really relaxing! I do find the longer you use it the better the results are- but its not always convenient to use it for 30mins a day unfortunately, Im usually pretty hectic!!

Thats all this week!

Hi all,

Weekly update- I'm afraid to say Ive been a bit hectic this week and so my time spent using lumie has been affected a bit- Ive only missed one day completely but Ive had a couple of short sessions this week. It doesnt seem to have affected things too much now Im this far into using lumie, although I have had a small/mild breakout- but nothing nothing like I used to get. My skin is still steadily improving, and whilts I still get small 'spots' I dont have lumpy clusters that are painful.

Im actually pretty impressed with lumie, it does what it says and no side effects- although it would be really really useful if the lamp was bigger so you could treat a bigger area- cos im always so hectic I do struggle to spend as much time as Id like on it.

However I have even mentioned it to a friend as she was complaining of terrible acne, and she has gone and purchased a Lumie! Ill let you know how she gets on too!

thats all for now,

Hi Lumie Blogger- I too am trialling the Lumie Clear.

Started on 21st May so may be just slightly ahead of you.

I have had really good results
I am 38 and have suffered with mild-moderate acne since my mid 20s trying endless products with little or no effect so I am still a bit amazed that the Lumie is working.

I Didnt get any new spots at all for the last 2 weeks.
I have had a couple of spots this week but like you say nothing like before when I used to get clusters every day and never seemed to have a spot free day.

It would be fantastic if the lamp was a bit bigger so you could treat a bigger area as you say. I would also love it to be chargeable so that you could walk around and do other things whilst using it rather than having to plug it in and be confined to the same spot but up to now Im a very happy bunny and am really glad I started using it .

Hiya everyone- and hi Leeds Lass!

Really good to hear what others are thinking of Lumie too, and Leeds Lass makes a really good point that the Lumie would be amazing if you could charge it up and use it not plugged in to the wall. I also, as you already know, really think the lamp could be bigger so that you could treat a bigger area- although that said it cant be too big or it wouldnt be very portable. Really impressed that Leeds Lass hasnt got any new spots for the last 2 weeks- I am still getting the odd one, small though- but I am wondering if thats down to the fact ive started a new contraceptive pill and my body is just re-adjusting. Regardless of getting the odd spot, Lumie really has made a difference to my skin.

Going on holiday next week, so really happy my skin wont look so gross when I hit the beach!

Any other comments any one has would be really interesting to hear!!

Take care

Hi Lumie Blogger.

Are you taking the Lumie with you on holiday? I took mine when we went to Jamaica in June. Good job it is so light and portable or I wouldnt have been able to fit it in my case with the 20 pairs of shoes that are always necessary and essential for holidays !!!! - Have a great time anyway.

I have missed a couple of nights of treatment this week and have had a couple of new spots on my forehead.

I dont think it is anything to do with missing 2 nights of treatment though more to do with the fact that it was the time of the month.

I am also 100% sure that new spots dont last anywhere near as long as they did before Lumie. Now when I get a new spot it has gone in a couple of days where as before I would never just get one or 2 spots it would be big clusters and they would take weeks to go.

Hi all,

very sorry Ive been AWOL for a little while, as you know I went on holiday- but ended up staying for 2 weeks in stead of one, and finding out that I had not signal in the villa so I was unable to update while there!

Hi also to Leeds Lass, I did indeed take Lumie with me- like you say it is extrememly portable so easy to pack. An amazing thing happended this holiday- I was comfortable enough to go barefaced on the beach/ by the pool, and only wore tinted moisturiser for the evenings!!!! That may not sound amazing to some, but I have not gone barefaced- in front of anyone- for years!!!! I used Lumie religiously for the first week, terrified the suncream would bring me out in spots, but thankfully my skin just looked better and better- Im sure the sun and getting a light tan helped too, but its faded some lingering red marks. The second week I was a bit more haphazard with using Lumie, but amazingly, my skin stayed clearer than it ever has- couple of tiny tiny whiteheads- the kind that dont leave big angry red patches and fade overnight, but seriously nothing nothing like before.

Ive now been back a few days (snowed under with work!) and I was terrified that they would come back a bit as I'm not getting 10 hours sleep or some lovely sun on my face anymore, but actually, its still looking pretty darn good- and Im still not wearing proper make up!!!! Woooooo! Im using a light tinted moisturiser, which I much prefer but havent been able to get away with for so long, so Im a very happy bunny right now!

Now Im back I have been using Lumie but again a bit more haphazardly as Im kinda interested to see if its made a difference that lasts even when you are not religiously using it- so far it seems to- although I will still keep topping up a few times a week I reckon- or go back to full on every night if it does look like the dreaded spots are coming back!

The most amazing thing I think is the change in the spots I get- firstly I hardly get any, but if I do they are not massive angry red pimples but tiny tiny little things that honestly are gone next day with no marks- heaven.

So Im on top of the world right now- so nice gigving my face a breather from heavy cosmetics, and im so much less self conscious.

Loving it!

Hope you all are having as much sucess as me, sounds like its going well for Leeds Lass too- how long have you been trialling now Leead Lass? Im nealy at the end of mine...

Thats all til next week, take care!

Week 11 and 12

Hi everyone,

Its been a couple of weeks since I was last here - so Im sorry, but here is my update from the past couple of weeks :)

So if you've been following since the start you'll know obviously my skin is loads better, so Ive kind of gone a bit experimental over the past couple of weeks to see if Lumie has made a semi permenant change- so Ive just used Lumie about 3 times a week for 15 minutes- and I have to say last week my skin stayed very clear- couple of tiny things but not even worth mentioning really- and then this week I have had a couple more- one real big one :( !! To be fair even the real big one isnt like they were before. And its funny, they dont last as long and they arent generally so angry. Ive also beeen majorley stressed, tired and generally hormonal too this week, so actually I think the small outbreak this week may have something to do with that.

All in all I think Lumie has made a massive improvement over and above the usual creams, pills, potions and lotions I have tried before. Whilst its not made my skin perfect like Gisele or Heidi Klum's its exceeded my expectations-mainly becasue its so unintrusive and gentle- creams and things used to over dry my skin and make it sorer- lumie not only seems to prevent more forming it also seems to speed the healing process.

Im certainly goning to stick to topping up with Lumie whenever I have an outbreak- and if it looks like my skin is returning to its old bad habits I will be going back to the full regime pronto!

Its actually the end of my trial period :( but ill let you guys know of any changes or major results that I think you will want to hear about over the next few months anyway! Its time to see if this is working for anyone else out there. Hopefully Leeds Lass is also seeing results!

Let me know how you guys are getting on too- Ive only heard positives so far- but anyone not seeing the results they want?

Im still only wearing tinted moisturiser by the way! Its so lovely to not be caked in makeup and have the confidence to do it!

Good luck to everyone else out there battling with their skin, I really hope Lumie works for you guys too.

Take care!!

I've been using Lumie clear for 9 weeks now and to be honest the treated areas have shown no sign of improvement. I've had more spots than before I started and they do seem smaller but they may turn into large ones with time. It hasn't improved the scarring either. I'll carry on using it until I've found another treatment. I thought it would be best to give another view on this treatment. As with all acne treatments, they don't seem to work for everyone.I hope people have greater success than myself.

M.B. and Miss C - sorry to hear things aren't working out for you as well as they have for me. It's worth noting to start with that the Lumie takes up to 3 months to work; it was 100% effective for me within 2 months but there are plenty of people who've found that it has taken longer and still seen good results.

First thing to check, if you have been putting the Lumie directly against your skin, is whether you have been wiping it clean before every use. The manual suggests a damp cloth but I use a baby wipe to make absolutely sure it's germ-free. If you don't clean it, you're putting bacteria directly onto your face every time you start treatment, which would very probably cause more spots. Also, are you using it for 15 minutes per affected patch of skin every night? (N.B. If you're using it further away it has to be for longer.)

If neither of those things is the issue, I suggest you try to identify anything else that could be causing these negative effects, e.g. -

Are you (or have you recently been) coming off of/starting any medication?

Have you eaten anything particularly sweet/greasy in the past 6 weeks?

Have you changed your skincare routine at all in the past 8 weeks?

Are you touching your skin or washing it more than you normally would?

Have you been getting less sleep than normal recently?

Have you been more stressed than normal recently?

My doctor told me that spots usually take a while to develop so anything within the past two to six weeks could easily be related to the soemthing else rather than the Lumie.

If none of those is the issue and you've been using the Lumie as close to the skin as possible, you could try using it at a greater distance. It does get quite warm and that could affect the appearance of your skin as it's increasing blood flow to the spots, so could make them redder/more inflamed and noticeable.

Hope you find a way of making it work for you, it seems to be successful for most people so it'd be a real shame if not :)

My skin really gets me down I'm 19 and I've had bad acne since around the age of 13 I'he tried various prescription dreams and antibiotics but nothing clears them up, its really starting to effect my confidence I'm a student so the lumie is a lot of money however I'm thinking it may be worth it? Have the effects stayed good long term? X
