Hi - I have just started a 12 week trial period of Lumie. I am delighted that something new (and apparently free from side effects) is on the market and have my fingers crossed, though I'm not expecting fast miracle quick-fixes! I was also pleased to see it's backed up by a dermatologist who was involved in the now-sadly-defunct Acne Support Group.

I had the usual acne in my teens/ early 20s, never quite got rid of it, and it came back with a bit of a vengeance in my late 20s. I'm now in my mid 40s! It's usually quite mild but sometimes I get a spot which builds up under the skin and makes my nose light up like a red beacon....
I've tried almost everything from antibiotics to many lotions and potions over the counter. I'm currently a long-term user of Dianette, which I don't want to be on for much longer because of potential side effects (and not really being totally convinced it's working), and using Duac (getting fed up with bleaching bedclothes because of the benoxyl peroxide in it!). The one and only antibiotic lotion which seemed to help me was withdrawn from the UK market with no explanation a few years ago!

Acne has been a blight for most of my adult life and really affects my moods and confidence. Luckily it's fairly mild to moderate. I suspect it's genetic as my brother is also affected a bit.

So I've been using Lumie for a week now. I agree with the other poster that you either have to hold it quite close (and therefore get quite small coverage of an area) or hold further away for a bigger area (but you need to then use it for longer). I was glad to see that your skin doesn't go red, even immediately after treatment. I've found that it has been quite easy to use when watching television ;¬). I am certainly going to persevere with this and I do know you have to give things about three months before you know whether it's really working or not, so let's see how it goes....

Well that's the end of week two of the trial. I can't say that I've been spot-free, but I've not had any big flare-ups, and the spots that I have had have cleared away fairly quickly. Sometimes I have a couple of days pretty well spot-free anyway, so I am determined to give this the full 12 weeks to see if the general trend is upwards! I do find that the glasses provided are a bit uncomfortable where they sit at the top of my cheeks and dig in a wee bit, but they only need to be on when I'm treating my nose (my biggest problem area). It would be good in a way if you could treat a bigger area (eg. the entire face) more quickly, perhaps by having a slightly larger device - but at the moment I just focus on my nose, then chin area, then if there's time, also on my chest which is occasionally prone to a breakout - that's about an hour in total.

It's now the end of week three of my trial. Using Lumie is becoming quite a routine now - I don't really have to think about it - I just set aside 30 minutes to an hour in the evening. I've been sent goggles to wear rather than the glasses, and I do find them much more comfortable, and it makes it a bit easier to get the gadget up close to your skin. I do feel that my skin seems to be feeling smoother. A couple of small spots which came up (one of which was threatening to be a longer lasting nasty one) seemed to heal up more quickly when I used Lumie in direct contact with my skin. So I'm settling into the routine, and will hopefully start to know whether the improvement is a temporary thing or a trend.....I'm feeling slightly optimistic! I've also caught myself almost nodding off when using it against my skin as it's nice and warm!

It's the end of week four, and I've still been in the habit of using Lumie nightly. I was a bit disheartened when I had a fairly spectacular breakout on my nose on Friday night (something that can happen ever few months), but it seems to be healing up fairly quickly. I'm not expecting to see a positive turnaround until the last month of the trial (which is when the leaflet suggests that results should start to be seen), so I'm not giving up hope! I must admit I've scoffed a lot of cakes and sweets recently (and drunk more), and felt quite stressed, so that won't have helped. I think I'll maybe try just holding it close, rather than making actual contact with my skin. So onwards and upwards with week five!

That's the end of week five of the Lumie trial. I'm glad to say that my spectacular breakout did indeed heal up a bit more quickly than usual (with no new ones following on to speak of). There's not a lot to report on this week really, so I'll keep this update short...

End of week six - I'm feeling more positive this week, having not had a big breakout since the last one two weeks ago! I wouldn't say I'm blemish-free, but my skin still feels nicer and smoother and I've only had a few small spots.
I do wish I could stop falling asleep when using it though! I guess that shows I find it quite relaxing....so that's me halfway through the 12-week trial - let's see what the second half brings!

Week 7 of the Lumie trial.......nothing much to report this week! I'm still getting a few small spots, mainly at the side of my nose, so I'll need to check that the light is actually getting into those nooks and crannies with how I'm holding it. My skin still feels smoother. I'll report more next week....

End of week 8 - I think that I am seeing a slight (perhaps not dramatic - ie. not entirely blemish-free!) improvement. My skin is generally better, I'd say, and any small spots which do come up seem to heal up more quickly; but I do sometimes have little phases like this, so I'll need to see whether this is a lasting trend or not! Feeing a bit more optimistic....

End of week 9 of the trial - getting near the end now! I got a potentially sore lumpy spot starting on my chin (I hadn't really been treating my chin so much as it's not the main problem area), but I'm glad to say that it seems to have healed up quicker than normal thanks to concentrating Lumie on that area (as well as the rest!). So still quite happy - not a miracle, but I seem to be heading in the right direction....

That's the end of week 10 - bit of a strange one as I've had a couple of spots on my nose just these last two days (perhaps that late night at the Edinburgh Fringe is to blame!), but they've not turned into monster ones, and again I think they've healed up a bit quicker - so that I think for me at least, this is more of a treatment than a prevention. Let's see how it goes for the next two weeks.....

The end is nigh......end of week 11. Hopefully you're not all too bored. I confess that I did miss two days this last week, which is unusual for me but due to the Fringe!! I'm still getting a few breakouts on my nose and chin, and I do target them if time is of the essence. I certainly still keep on nodding off when using it as the warmth is nice on your skin!

Well that's the end of the trial I guess!! I had a bit of a breakout on my chin and chest, but stress levels have hit a record high at work last week, so I reckon that nothing could combat that! Has it been a success for me? I'm not sure! If the nice Lumie people let me keep it, I think I'll continue to use it and see what happens over the longer term.
