Hallo
Has anyone tried using lumie clear while on amitriptyline or other medication which has photosensitivity as a side-effect?

Well, I have now spoken to a GP (who was a bit clueless, hadn't heard of it and said give it a trial and if I have any problems stop!)

I know my medication has made me photosensitive, as I burn more easily in sunlight than before. So on the advice of Lumie I will try a small patch test and see if I have any problems. I have just ordered it today and will come on the board and mention it if anything bad or good happens!

DAY ONE: ok, so the lumie clear has already arrived - hurray! It is very easy to use. I have tried one area on my face for fifteen minutes as advised.

Amazingly no sunburn-style redness where I used it.

The only thing is stinging in the corner of my mouth on the side where I used it, as if the sun had dried out my mouth. Soreness in my mouth and eyes is part of the photosensitivity my meds cause me, so I will keep an eye on that. I wonder if it may be less noticeable if I use the lamp on the stand so it is not in direct contact.

Eyes are stinging a bit, but were already stinging today, so not 100% sure if the lamp has exaccerbated that. I had the goggles on, which were uncomfy.

I'll be able to judge the lip/eye thing better after more uses. Fingers crossed!

Hello there, i am also considering using the Lumie on my acne, but I'm a bit concerned because one of the potential common side effects of my prescribed antibiotics is photosensitivity. I haven't experienced that so far on my treatment, but i'm cautious incase using the Lumie brings it on. I'd be interested to know how you get on!

Hi Helen. If I were you I'd check with your GP, although mine didn't really have anything to say other than 'as it's a free trial, give it a go.'

It could be that although photosensitivity is one of the side-effects listed you don't actually suffer from it. I know I do, as I burn easily, get sore lips and eyes etc in bright sunlight when I never did before.

One thing my meds also cause is dry, stinging eyes and lips, as this can be exaccerbated by sunshine, so at the moment I am waiting for a day when I wake up with those feeling fine as I won't be able to tell if it's the lumie clear causing it or if I had it anyway that day.

The one time I did try it, I didn't have any redness or any sun rash-type rash, but my eyes and mouth did sting and couldn't actually remember if they had already been like that that day! I knwo that sounds weird, but when you have side-effects form meds like I do you get kind of used to them and it's hard to know when they kicked in.

PS worth saying that much to my surprise I again had no redness or rash with the lamp. To be honest, when I thought about my photosensitivity it was those things I feared I would get with the lamp - I didn't actually think about the stinging lips and eyes thing.

Day after using the lamp at a distance on my face and my skin has never been so clear - it is glowing! It looks smooth and has an even, rosy tone that I normally don't have at all. None of my usual blotchiness; just healthy, strong-looking skin.

Unfortunately, my lips and particularly my eyes are noticeably stinging, so I am starting to conclude that the lamp does not suit me due to my photosensitivity. However, I will give it a go one more time in the way I mentioned above and if still no luck will definitely try again if I am ever on different meds.

ok, I tried again with the lamp close to my face, but with my eyes closed and goggles. The next day my eyes and lips were really stinging. I'll leave it now, unless I get the chance to try it once more before sending it back. I'm hoping for a day when my eyes and lips are really comfortable so I can compare as described above. So far, no luck, except that it is really amazing how much better my skin is the next day. Such a same I have the photosensitivity as it would have been so great to have ok skin after so many years of not.

I've been using tretinoid topical medication for three months and no results-my acne continues. So I got the lumie light today but I have a concern before using it. My skin is very sensitive to light right now because of the medication. Should I stop using tretinoid? and how long should I wait before beginning to use the lumie treatment?

Hi Gabriela,

If you are photosensitive, you should stop using the topical medication for a couple of days prior to using Clear and we would always suggest that you test a small area before using it for the full treatment.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the advise! I stop using the topical medication and start with lumie. Everything seems going well : )
