I am a 20 year old male and have ran the 12 week course of Lumie to try and help my moderate acne on the cheeks and forehead. I have held the light close to all of these areas for 15 minutes a day without fail, but have failed to see any results whatsoever. In fact, they have probably got worse through some stages of the course.

That's a shame, I'm really surprised because it cleared mine up totally! Just a few things you might want to try:

1) Make sure you clean the glass panel before every use, I found this made a big difference even though the instructions said to do it once per week.

2) You say you hold the Lumie "close" to the skin - are you not holding it directly *against* the skin? It needs longer sessions to work fully if it's not in contact.

3) Are sure that you're washing your skin thoroughly with a non-irritating product? I find that my spots and redness come back if I wash my face with cleanser rather than warm water and a cotton pad (presumably because my skin doesn't like some of the ingredients), or if I skip washing it altogether (because of the bacteria and oil accumulating).

4) Are you eating sugary things, drinking lots of caffeine, alcohol, milk or energy drinks, sleeping too little or touching your face a lot? The Lumie won't make much difference if you're frequently unconsciously exposing your skin to things which trigger your acne. I find that I still break out if I eat ice cream!

5) Is your acne cystic (i.e. hard bumps that never come to a head and hurt if pressed)? If so, you need a doctor rather than a Lumie as cystic acne is very difficult to treat.

Hope something in there is helpful, it'd be a shame if the Lumie really can't be made to work for you. Having suffered from acne for 10 years before finding Lumie Clear, I know how frustrating it is to spend lots of money on treatments which don't give you the results you were hoping for!

I was holding it about 1cm if that away from the skin. My diet is good and balanced and I exercise regularly, although I do have 2-3 cups of tea a day which surely wouldn't make a difference. I normally wiped the glass panel every so often. My acne is not cystic although my forehead does have small bumps under the skin. It didnt do anything to help me, and it is quite frustrating when I spent so much money on it.

I'm really sorry that it didn't help you and that you feel you've wasted your money. Obviously we don't claim that it will help everyone but it does seem to work for the majority.

I'd like to remind people that that we offer a 30-day trial period when you buy direct from Lumie. Most people notice a difference well within this time so if after, say, two weeks your skin is no better then PLEEEEASE give us a ring! It might be that we can offer some tips for use and (contrary to what it says elsewhere on the Forum) we do look at each case individually and can sometimes extend the home trial.

If you're one of the unlucky ones that Lumie Clear doesn't work for, then at the end of the trial period you can return it to us for a refund (less £20!).

Th05, since you still have the Lumie it really would be worth putting it directly against the skin and cleaning it with something damp before literally every use. I know that the red light treatment I used before the Lumie only had obvious effects when I used it directly against the skin rather than very close to it, so the Lumie may well be the same for you (it is a very individual thing).

If you're using it on skin that isn't freshly cleaned (i.e. has moisturiser/spot treatment on it) then that could also be having a detrimental effect.

Failing that... ebay or gumtree? I've seen them go for £70 and above second-hand :).

does this not work for cystic acne? I have roseacea as well and was hoping it would help clear that up too? I have already begun using the product, but I brought mine from boots, will i still be able to return it after 30 days if it doesn't work?

Hi Potter,

Lumie Clear is effective for mild-moderate acne vulgaris, not cystic acne or rosacea I'm afraid. And the 30-day trial is only for Lumie customers.

Hope it works out for you,
