I spent several mths weaning off Wellbutrin after 8 yrs on it. I'd been off for a week and tried Prozac. I was really optomistic hoping it would rescue me from the SAD symtoms that were swirling in. I got much more depressed, couldn't see straight w/ nausea. A pharmacist said I shouldn't ever get more depressed so I stopped after the first day.

I only have one option left: Escitelopram, which is the new version of Celexa.

Hi Jean, sorry to hear about your bad experience.Anything like prozac can take several weeks to take effect.I started on it 3 years ago and it took about two months till I noticed any improvement.I actually felt worse for the first ten days, but was told to expect this.
Hope this helps.

Jeanne

How did you find the Wellbutrin? Why did you come off them?

I asked my doc to try me on them but they are not licenced in the UK.

I have had side effects when starting on Antidepressants, some worse than others. I don't think it's because the drug is any worse than the others, just that we each metabolise them in a different way. I've just started my winter regime last week. I'm getting some side effects, but it's probably easier to deal with them while I'm still feeling relatively well and not truly into the SAD. Doc's plan is that as I'm bound to need the med, why not take it earlier in the hope that I don't get as 'down'. Preventative medicine I suppose.

I went on prozac for about 3 month a couple of years ago. I found they made me sick everytime I took them (twice a day everyday :( ) and they made me sleep an extra 6 hours per day!

The nurse said the sickness was normal but after 3 months of vomiting twice a day, I couldn't stand it anymore
