Hi there, I can honestly say I think I,v been in some kind of denial, trying to kid myself I don't suffer with S.A.D. We'v all had a cr**py summer so that won't have helped any of us.I haven't been on here for weeks even to read other peoples posts, (course it's all changed since I'v been away and I don't like change, any body else dislike change??)So here I am crawling back 'cos I need that comfort of knowing that others understand.I'm trying without med's 'cos I don't like the side effects, but wonder if I can manage without them. I'v read the other post (sorry can't remember name of person who posted it) about mess, I'm very intolerent to mess and try desperatly to get my family to understand how bad it makes me feel.
I could blurb on for hours but you'd all tire of it. Anybody else been in this denial place before??

Hi caroline, not denial but close, I know I suffer from sad, but each year, I tell myself, I will be ok this year, the sad wont happen but, of course it always does. sometimes ive made an apointment to see the doc ,only to cancel because I think im fed up and not really ill.

I can definitely relate to that. I was so sure that I wasn't going to suffer from SAD this year that it took me a couple of weeks to realise why I suddenly turned into an psycho irritable crying person. And by that time I'd already done irreperable harm to at least one of my friendships.

I have been there in the past too. Making appointments at the docs and then thinking 'why am I here, there's nothing wrong with me'

I have found the best way to deal with it is acceptance and understanding of the condition. I accept that I have it, I accept that I have to work with it and understand that I will feel better for at least part of a year.

It's been catching me by surprise really. Even after a major hit a few years ago, I still think it won't happen.

Wow, paulst & Suzie - I'm the same way with the doc. Usually I see the doc after a bad spell with SAD wakes me up from my denial that it won't happen again.

Hi Everybody, This lady here with denial has been to the doctors this morning, a snivling little wreck in the chair, must admit I'm very reluctant to go on anti-d's, gonna see how I manage without, My doctor also mentioned that I'm probably border line menopausal (Oh, wow, all that to contend with aswell aaaahhhhh!!)
Keep plodding on eh!

Yeah, that's a bundle of laughs as well LOL! Come to think of it, I've been worst over the last few years.... early menopause too. If only the others didn't keep wanting the heating up!

When i phone up the doctors, the receptionist always asks if it is urgent. Thats a hard question to answer - do I follow my heart or my head. The quivering mound of jelly on the floor is me, but I still have to force myself to mutter a delayed 'yes' inbetween sobbing.

Yes, had to call the doc's office at the start of SAD season after having an anxiety attack and bottoming-out emotionally. They asked why I was booking the appointment and I quietly said, "I'm depressed."

It's so hard to say those words, to admit we're at a low... honestly, that we're terrified and desperate, but just going for some help made me feel I had some control and I've been at a decent place since. Tired a lot and I say some stupid stuff, but other than that, I'm fairly leveled out. I count myself as being fortunate and hope to scrape by again this year.

Another question the doctor asks is 'are you getting enough sleep?'. Well how do I answer that one!!!

I really dont know! How long is a piece of string?

Should reception staff be asking what's the matter? All they need to know is that you need an appointment! .. REminds me of a joke, but I don't know if I can find it. Will have a try!

Here's the joke...
An 86 yr old man went into his doctors surgery and said to the receptionist

"I have come to see the doctor"
"what is the matter?" asked the receptionist
"I have got a problem with my k**b" he said
"you can't say that" she said loudly "you are going to embarrass all the other patients here waiting"
"well what do I say?" asked the man
"say you have a problem with your ear" she replied
looking confused the man walked outside only to return after a few minutes
"I have come to see the doctor" he said to the receptionist
"what is the matter?" she asked
"I have got a problem with my ear" said the man
nodding approvingly the receptionist asked
"and what is the problem ?"
he replied
"I can't p**s out of it!!

Me, I agree. My response would be "Is there such a thing as *enough* sleep?!"
