I have found myself coping really well so far with the winter. Been making sure i take all my medication, and my new job allows me to have my lightbox at my desk, which has massively helped.
But does anyone else struggle at work? I'm a really bright and intelligent person. i have done lots of training and in the past managers have put me forward for further responsibilties as no-one can hold me back in Spring/Summer. But come winter i can actually feel my body and mind physically slow down. i'm now finding i need to nap midday/early afternoon. i find myself getting upset as now it holds me back in jobs etc. what will i be able to achieve with my life now?
Any advice welcome, please.

The same as you, like a bear, sleeping in winter. My brain slows down also. If I wouldn’t be very quick in summer, i would think, it’s the way I am. SAD means having 2 personalities. 1 in summer, totally different in winter.
I do struggle at work like you, relationships suffer, I make mistakes and no one understands why I make these.

Hi Sleepy- bear,
I know exactly what you are saying. What has been helping me is Remeron. It is an antidepressant and the only one of its class which is a tetracyclic. My psychiatrist originally hesitated to prescribe it to me as it does make you hungry. They prescribe it for people who have anorexia so that they will get an appetite and eat. So, there is this, plus I have been noticing that people either like Remeron or they absolutely hate it. It can do wonders for your depression or it can do the exact opposite. They also prescribe this for people who have problems sleeping which is why I am on it. Before I was on this, I was constantly falling asleep at my job which is a big no-no and this went on for several years until I found out I have SAD and with Remeron, anti-anxiety med, other antidepressants, and light therapy, I am a brand new person. I have really had to experiment a lot with the Remeron though. Right now, I find that taking approximately 17 mg of mirtazapine which is the generic of Remeron seems to be doing the trick and so far I am not getting overly hungry like I was and I wake up feeling refreshed. So, so far so good.

Anyway, I hope this helps you.

Hi,
I'm a bit like you, although not so much with feeling tired, but I find it a lot harder to concentrate in the winter. I find I keep going from one task to the next every ten mins or so, then going back to complete what I was doing before, and not really feeling very focussed on anything. I guess I also find it takes me longer to 'wake up' in the mornings when I get to work, as I start early but sometimes don't start to feel 'normal' until about lunch time :( I guess it helps if your employers are understanding of your situation, and are letting you have your light box at work :)
Wish I had more advice but just wanted to tell you you're not alone!
