hi i was a member of this forum and used to post on a regular basis, i was diagnosed at a s.a.d clinic and was told to use a lightbox with prozac. however around a year ago i visited a hypnotherapist and it has changed my life. i no longer use my lightbox or prozac and i am very well advanced at using self hypnosis. my bodt definetly still responds to this part of the year differently but i cope with this in a totally new way. in fact an improvent of about 99%. i was very depressed but what was happeneing was that my concious mind told my un concious mind that i was depressed. and my unconcious mind then told my concious mind i was depressed and the vicious circle continued. hypnosis(a wrong word if you ask me, it is not what you think at all) bypasses the concious mind and tells your un concious positive things. i will say that it never happened overnight but do yourselves a favour and think about this option. it has to be better than meds and being chained to a lightbox. i hope this post does not get deleted because i am only trying to help people who are in the situation i was.
I am very interested to know more about your experiences with self-hypnosis. There are lots of books and websites (where you can download scripts) and CDs you can buy. Did you use one of those routes, or did your hypnotherapist give you a self-hypnosis script?
Am I right in guessing that with a username 'rangers' that you are in Scotland? If so, I'd be interested in knowing who your hypnotherapist was.
Hi Rangers, that sounds really interesting. I had hypnotherapy a few years ago for anxiety and it really worked, I don't know how it was so effective. I would also be interested to hear more about self hypnosis for SAD.
