I have to move to an office with no windows! :-( As a SAD sufferer I'm really worried about this and how it will affect my mood. Unfortunately I don't have a diagnosis, so can't do anything about it. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good desk lamp/ daylight bulbs to make this bearable?

I have this type of problem at work. There are actually windows, but there are blinds there, that the students take every opportunity to close. I can't really do much about it I think, without making a fuss.

I'm seeing my boss for a 'return to work' interview sometime soon, I'm expecting to return to work after I have seen the doc in the morning. I suppose it might be worth mentioning it to her, seeing whether it makes a difference.

Do you have a desklamp or anything like that to make it brighter? I was thinking of something with full spectrum daylight bulbs perhaps. I hope your return to work goes ok.

Well lamp isn't possible, I work with students, several, so am all over the place, don't think they would like it, they make enough fuss about daylight in the classroom. Load of troglodytes!

Hi Bagpuss. I have bought a standard desk lamp from John Lewis (£20). It needs a 40W screw bulb - so I ordered a blue daylight one from eBay. Those types of bulbs are apparently used for breeding lizards(!), and hence they are easy to find on eBay. I couldn't find 40W blue daylight bulbs in shops, hence using eBay. It's a bit too soon to see whether it is helping, but it makes me feel cheerier simply because the little dark cave I work in is just that bit brighter.

Thanks Lodger, that's a great idea. Do you have any windows in your office? I will definitely give it a try.

We have a window, but to be honest it is so small and a (cough... rather large) lady sits right in front of it. So, the truth of it is that I am usually surprised when I leave the building and find out that it is sunny outside.

I went to work today (it is an awful miserable overcast day in Edinburgh) and have just returned home now. Upon reflection I do think that the blue light (or the extra light) did lift my mood. I think I felt brighter there at work, than I do now at home.

LOL! Oh dear, how unfortunate, sounds like you need the extra light in there! That's great that the extra light is working, I will google those daylight bulbs.
