This must be an AD which is not normally prescribed for SAD.

Took mirtazapine for a few weeks to combat insomnia from sertraline. Felt awful at the time, since the initial insomnia remained and mirtazapine seemed to transform me in to an ultra-drowsy zombie for most of the day. Never been the same since (not sure if psychological or drug related), but I now take longer to get to sleep and struggle to get going even on summer days.

Hate to say it but give it more time. Some of these meds may take up to 8 weeks to begin working. Talk to your doctor if things are no better than.

Yes, I have been on mirtazapine and experienced the same as you and my doctor cut it down and I cut it down even more. I have researched it a little and from what I have read, mirtazapine works better for sleep at a lower dose so you might want to try cutting it down gradually. Just an idea. Hope this helps!

I had a similar experience with Mirtazapine to yourself. It was(supposedly) prescribed for me to help me sleep, but after 18months & severe apathy caused by this particular medication; I stopped & have started taking 5HTP(BD), 50mg twice daily. Even after a couple of days on the serotonin(5HTP) I am starting to feel human again, including having a good, healthy sleep. With a spark of life back. I was on 15mg nightly but even if the dose was doubled there was no improvement.
Anti-depressants do not work for me, and each time the blasted Dr's put me on them I feel worse lol. From my professional( I am a retired RN) and personal experience, these chemical straight jackets are thrown at us due to the lack of time, very high financial cost of other useful interventions & lack of an open-mind from the medical profession.
These are my own views, do not use them as authoritative.
