Hi Eve, I get hormonal migraines (about 3 or 4 a year) and my light box has never triggered one. I do find that if I have a migraine I can't use the box for a couple of days but it's never been a direct trigger. Might be an idea to have a chat with your GP though.

Hi Eve,

I have used the lighbox many times over the last approx. 10 years and did find I would get headaches from time to time from using it. I found last year the light box did not work at all so started on Citalopram which I feel saved me for the first time in years.

I get migraines if I use a conventional fluorescent lightbox (the vast majority of models). I tried the Lumie Desk Lamp and got horrendous migraines from it. I switched to an LED lightbox (the GoLite) and have been using that happily for years, although on the days when I wake up with migraine I don't use it as I can't tolerate much light once a migraine has started. It's never been the cause of a migraine, though. Fluorescent light is a very common migraine trigger, even the better made lamps. Go for a lightbox you can try out before you commit to buying it.

Hi Eve
I've got a patient (I'm an acupuncturist) who gets migraines that are triggered by fluorescent 'energy saver' lights, similar to Elettaria above. Other lights don't have this effect, so you might want to go for a different type of light box.
PM me or email at http://www.communityspiritacupuncture.co.uk if you want further info.

I've got a constant headache, which may be SAD related, and it seems to get worse when using fluorescent tube based lighting - even the more modern high frequency gear without the flicker makes it worse, but not to the same degree as the old flickery type.

For some reason the flourescent lighting at work and college also make me extremely tired and drowsy.

I've found LED lighing to be preferrable in terms of energy saving lighting options, although give me the sun any day of the week and I am a happy man.
