Hi fellow Reverse Vampires :)

So glad I found this site. I should of known about it sooner because I have a LightBox and a Lumie sunrise alarm clock, but there you go, I'm conected now.

So . . my question for you guys. .

How are your employers about s.a.d? My Boss thinks that it isn't a real disorder and keeps saying things like 'yes, but we all feel like that sometimes'!!! NO EVEYONE BLOODY DOESN'T, *cough *cough, your thoughts please :)

Well, I work at home for a local hospital and had a hard time several months back and ended up working past my shift for which I got caught and got wrote up for. When I told my boss about my problem, she just said it was none of her business. They basically wrote me up for falsificaton of my timesheet as I was working on my own time for which they consider a serious infraction and to which I could have been fired for but thankfully I guess she cared enough not to do that - THANK GOD!!! But, anyway, this has been my experience with my employer. Just thought I would share. Donna

Hi there ironically I have just made a post entitled Have Faith. Not all bosses are completely ignorant. Hope you both manage to come to some sort of understanding with your employers as I know I have experienced the same crap in the past.

I just think that people who don't appear to understand is because 1) they are ignorant and 2)because they don't have SAD so lucky them! One day they may have a problem with their health and that will be a different story!

I dont really know how my bosses will react but it is a worry. I am only just beginning to belive that I might have it myself. Its no nice! :-(

I was lucky enough to be able to tell my employers before I started work for the NHS. Hang in there Dude, just make sure you have all the information to give them, when you tell 'em.

I was sacked from my job in January, the company used the capability procedure against me and when I tried to tell them how my condition was affecting me HR had a go at me saying I was wasting there time and 4 weeks later I was sacked. Im on here as Im looking for help with preparing my witness statement for tribunal were I am hopeing I can get my SAD recognised as a disability and use discrimination law against them, I dont believe this has been done before so will be a landmark case if we win and hopefully help others to be more secure with there employment.

Did your GP diagnose you as having SAD? If yes then you have a recognised disorder and your company should have respected it. It would be like them telling a disabled person that his wheelchair is just an excuse not to walk!!! Some people really dont think before they speak. If they cant see an obvious problem then it cant exist in their eyes.

The tribunal have to decide if the impact is enough on my everyday life as to classify it as a disability so its not quite as straight forward and probably why there doesnt seem to be any previous cases to look to, also its likely that companys pay people off prior to tribunal once the disability has been confirmed which saves the company money and the bad publicity saves the sufferer the ordeal of going to tribunal and being cross examined but does nothing to help others in the same situation by getting clarification on how the law protects us.
