Hi,
Ive read some of the older posts and realised that other people too have been getting headaches from using the lamp for the first time, just wondered if any of those sufferers managed to eventually use the lamp without getting headaches in the end and how did you achieve it?!

The lamps are very useful for reducing sad symptoms but as you mentioned they can cause headaches. I used to have that problem but now sit further away from the light and this has reduced any problems.

Many people will get headaches and other symptoms from fluorescent lighting, and that's the type of lighting used in the majority of SAD lamps. Try an LED lamp instead, such as the Lumie Zip, the GoLite and so forth. I got migraine from the Lumie Desk Lamp, so I returned it (thank goodness for their trial period) and got a Golite, which I've been using happily for four and a half years now. If you're prone to migraines, I would not go anywhere near a fluorescent SAD lamp. They claim that they're easier on the eyes than other types of fluorescent lighting due to better ballast, but in my experience this is nonsense. Fluorescent light is dreadful whatever you do with it.

Yep, headaches do sometimes mess up my therapy, especially during the first few weeks off restarting a lightbox routine. It does get better.

When I first used mine for the full time, I felt really manic and it was horrible. I had to got for a walk to use up the excess energy. I think that you need to build up slowly. That will probably prevent headaches the first time too.

I forgot to take my therapy yesterday morning so I did it at about 7pm to make up.

Then I decided to have an early night, but of course, couldn't get to sleep, because the late light therapy had meade me hyper. Now I have slept through my bodyclock and woke up half an hour ago. (9:30am)

I came right to my light and now have a splitting headache.

I think the point I am making is that with these SAD lamps it seems that routine is important to keep the cardian cycles working properly.

Yes. (Using bright spark, so only 2,500 lux. Can't speak to the 10,000 lux models.)

Light is my main migraine trigger, so it was a concern, and I did have the odd headache at the start. I found that gradually increasing the time worked for me: it's very rarely a problem.

It is occasionally, though. If I feel a migraine starting part way through, I switch the box off. Usually I leave it for a while, and try again, sometimes not.
