Hi just wanted to say that last weeks SAD clinic was great and I learnt alot.

However unforunately I missed this week with SADA but having read the transcript I didnt miss much! They hardly gave any information and all replies were centred around becoming a SADA member! I cant believe that they wouldnt even give a list of NHS hospitals unless you paid to become a member! They call themselves a charity?? I find that disgusting, this is what I mean when people try to "cash in" on SAD sufferers.

Just wanted to know what anyone else thought?

I understand what you mean regarding giving out information about specialists. I wonder if this information is available elsewhere. I 'm sure it must be.

There is not a need for SAD clinics since SAD can now alledgedly be treated with antidepressants alone, which can be prescribed by a GP; hence the clinics have probably all dissapeared by now.

Last time I saw the SADA list it was already severely outdated, and the adresses of the only 2 clinics which I hadn't fully confirmed to have ceased last year are posted in the stickied 'Diagnosing Seasonal Affective Disorder' thread.

Interesting that you say "allegedly" BWAD. I wonder how many here would agree with you?

I thought they might have been interested in my case as a charity trying to raise the profile of the illness but guess not.

Sorry PI, personal experience creeping in again.

I unreasonably expect a treatment to be 100% effective, hence the use of the word 'alledgedly'.

That really is unreasonable! Many treatments are only partially effective, and I doubt there are any treatments for anything which are 100% effective on 100% of patients. What you need is something with a high enough efficacy rate to be considered medically useful. Last I checked, bright light therapy and antidepressants were equally effective in treating SAD, although the most effective treatment is to combine the two.

thanks for replying everyone, I do feel upset that they call themselves a charity and yet didnt give us any proper responses.
