Hi...

This is my first post, so please forgive me if this info's in an FAQ or something.

My local electrical shop, who say they specialise in lighting, haven't a clue. I've been told that a full-spectrum bulb will help with my mild SAD.

Can anyone tell me how I would use this or any other appliance? I mean, would I give myself extended light in the early evenings, beyond the 4/5 pm it gets dark, and then have a device wake me with gradually-increasing light in the dark mornings? I find I can sleep more than ten hours in winter, which isn't healthy, but I don't seem to be able to get up earlier than 10 a.m on days I'm not working.

Thanks in advance,

Lawrence

It's a myth that a full-spectrum bulb will cure SAD. I've written a website about light therapy and darkness therapy (focused on sleep, but this sort of thing is still relevant to SAD sufferers) which you can find at http://insearchofmornings.wordpress.com/category/articles/light-therapy/.

You might find a combination dawn simulator/lightbox to be useful, such as http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sunrise-System-Natural-Light-Lightbox/dp/B000YBVSN8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=lighting&qid=1265560240&sr=8-2, although note that you will need to be doing your bright light therapy fairly close to you bed if you use that one.
