Hi Emma, I am pretty new to treating sad more seriously. I guess I lived in denial for a bit about how serious it was. www.mind.org.uk has a great article on SAD and treating it and the impact it has on the individual and others. I pretty much follow its guidelines. However, the advice generally is similar - light therapy and emotional support are key in my treatment. I also find eating well and exercise really combats the symptons. Its quite a disciplie to follow a light therapy regime so I also keep hypericum (st john wort) drops to hand in case the symptons get worse. A great supporting book I recommend is "Beating stress, anxiety and depression" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beating-Stress-Anxiety-Depression-Groundbreaking/dp/0749928506

I hope my feedback has been useful.

Take care,
Terry.
