Does anyone else find that the lead-in and lead-out of the SAD season is in some ways more frustrating that the SAD season itself?

During SAD season its no fun for me, but with careful attention to meds and light therapy I can make it more bearable (although there are other factors which I cant influence)

During the transition between SAD season and normal life (thats just my 'take' on it) I experience highs and lows frequently that seem more intense than at any other times. Anyone else have this?

Thankfully the light, almost literally
, is visible at the end of the tunnel.

Hi Dyls, yes I do find it frustrating. One day I feel like SAD is over and I'm full of energy, and then the next my mood dips again, especially on grey days. I also feel more anxious. Hang in there, we're almost there! :-)

Absolutely, Dyls.
Once the days start to get sunnier I feel like I should instantly get better. Unfortunately that's not the way it seems to work. It's a gradual process. For me, it starts when we set the clocks ahead. I get tired, anxious, weepy, etc. interspersed with good days. I love the good days, since during winter I don't have many, but then when I have a bad day I feel like I have to start getting better all over again. Yuck.

I kind of feel like there are 3 different versions of 'me' over a year - the summer me, the SAD season me, and the in between me.

Getting there though, more sun please!

It's quite reassuring that other people feel like this too and don't get better immediately. This is the first year I've taken Citalopram and I'm coming off them at the moment, which probably doesn't help. I think I must be getting withdrawal symptoms, because I feel completely exhausted, I could just sleep all day. Is this normal?

I've taken Citalopram before as well as Seroxat and Venlafaxine which I'm taking at the moment-although Seroxat helped in the past, that was to treat a depression I had when I was younger. I don't find that anti depressants help me because SAD is different-they may well help others though. If you have staggered the amount of ADs that you've been taking you shouldn't experience withdrawal symptoms i.e taking less mgs daily. However if you stop immediately you probably will (tiredness, exhaustion etc.) Hope this helps and hope you feel better soon :)

Thanks Barney, I did reduce slowly and felt some withdrawal, I think that's what it was anyway, I felt completely exhausted and couldn't stay awake. Think they're out of my system now so should start to feel normal again, I hope.
