Hi marky,I suppose the forum has been quiet, but I expect it to get busier again soon when Autumn arrives and Winter rears its ugly head.

I'm still here Marky! I was commenting to Hadrian last week that the forum didn't seem to work as well for me last winter, didn't seem to be as many folks around or as many postings even during the busier times of year.

I think autumn is arriving in North Wet England this week! I'm working at home, so have a giant SAD lamp propped up behind my sewing machine.

I was really lucky to see this posted on my local freecycle. Fortunate that it was offered by someone who lives really locally to me, which is in the spirit of freecycle. I don't think I could ever have justified such an extravagant purchase, new bulbs will probably be an arm and a leg, but in the meantime it's here!

I'm here too. :) Not posting much but reading a lot of what people posted in the years the forum has been set up.

Very helpful, as bits of my workroom aren't that easily lit. I earn some of my income from sewing, so a good light is important. There is so little natural light in this room. I can also have 'lamp time' while I'm working. It felt very bright some of the time, so I have a cheap white hand towel over it when that happens, which diffuses the light a little. As long as I have long enough for a therapeutic effect without the towel.

I wonder how I can find out what the length of time is that I should be using this particular lamp?

I suppose you could try a minimum of 30 minutes and build up accordingly??

update! I found the make on a website. I thought it was a really old lamp,but seems it's still current. It says Diamond on the front and I think from looking at the buttons it's a Diamond 2. Suggested time 60 mins - 10000 lux at 33cm. The Diamond 3 and 4 models suggest less time and at a greater distance so maybe the bulbs are more powerful or more efficient or something. The upmarket models you can choose the intensity I think as well.

I shan't be using it in place of my other lamp/s, just a top up really.

@Bagpuss, Hiii... *waves* Hello!

@ Donna, yes the lamp is very big, but in fact doesn't seem to take that much room, it's propped up at the back of my work surface. I feel lucky to have it.

It's a shame that there are so many people with 'wants' on Freegle/Freecycle, as it means you get millions of emails about that and don't get to notice what people actually want to pass on. In the 'old' days, requesting items was rather frowned upon, but is now rather commonplace.

Totally off topic here....I recently posted that I wanted to get rid of my FIL Electric organ, that we no longer need/use. Bloke who mailed to say he would like it was getting rid of a Pianola. Unfortunately I read this out to the kids and they were very excited by this prospect. Hubs has always fancied one, so we more or less did a swop. It's now in the garage. Arrived in a non functioning condition complete with mouse nest, droppings, nibbled air tubes and goodness knows what else. hub has ordered couple of books and started to clean it up.
